Useless knives and edged weapons/tools

I've got a couple questions for "victor lee."

... There's a blade on there...

That's a modern interpretation of a historical Native American weapon known as the gun stock war club. On one hand, they emulated the look of a gun stock to invoke fear among fellow natives who were in awe of European firearms. On the other hand, Europeans would sometimes turn their spent rifles around and use them as clubs. The shape here concentrates mass behind an edge and that makes for an effective bludgeoning tool. Adding a sharp stone or metal point at the most likely place of impact also helps. The smallness of the "blade" allows for the effect to be achieved with very little material and helps to prevent sticking in the target.

... This seems like a classic of impractical weapon design. Looks cool, though.

I know Star Trek wanted to make the Klingons cool, alien, and believable. They just messed up with the last one. I haven't seen the new series but they always used to end up being more overblown bark than bite. Having Worf get tossed around to show just how strong the new alien threat is became a trope. Having just a little practical or historical knowledge of weapons and combat makes most of the Klingon weapons, practice, and fighting we see on screen look pretty silly. Of course, fight scenes in general are a little silly in older Star Trek series. Open palm punches and overhead strikes with clasped hands abound.
