I have many more but these are my current users. All thinned and convexed and in the case of the ZTBM blade polished to 2000 grit on the saber grind.
Enjoy. All work done by hand with sandpaper and leather.

Those are some great looking edges. Very fine and smooth.
Bet those smooth edges will pop off some hairs now.
Great Job:thumbup:
Great pics:thumbup:

those are cool!! ive used up to 2500 grit and mine dont look nearly as good.

You probably just stopped to soon. I also stropped them for what seemed like hours on smooth leather dusted with 2.5 micron abrasive. Which I THINK is like 15,000 grit? They are all VERY sharp but that ZTBM is in a league by itself. The edge on that thing is ANGRY and it lusts for blood. I end up nicking myself everytime I get drunk and goof around with it.

Nice edges... those babies look SHARP!!!

So what grit steps did you go thru... and where's a good place to get them???

Formed the edges with 320 since a fairly large amount of metal needed to be removed. Then refined the final shape with 600 since it is slower and easy to control as it removes stock. I was using a 10X magnifier and some calipers and trying to get the edge geometry even and pleasing to the eye.

Next went to 1500 grit to begin the polish all the way to the edge. Second to last step was a lot of slow careful work with 2000 grit. For all practical purposes the blades were totally sharp and very polished.

I then took it to the next level and as far as I can go with my current Skillz and tools using Flat smooth leather dusted with 2.5 micron Grit abrasive powder.

There is no edge shoulder they just blend smoothly into the primary grind. I can not say enough about the ZTBM. In my mind its the best Busse BM ever and cuts like no other with its thinner blade profile. Since I am already bragging with this post I will go one step further. My ZTBM is a stone cold vampire killer. WICKED SHARP!!

THANKS!!!

After the 1500 grit, how close to mirror is it? Still "hazed" or visible scratches?

Depends... With fresh paper it will be hazy with BARELY visible scratches.
But as the paper gets broken in and smooth it will go to a shiny polish. 2000 is the same really. Once that Papers gets broken in... After about the second or third cleaning it starts leaveing a really sweet finish.

COOL!

Thanks.... I'm gonna give this a try. :D

Nice pix! I hear ya about angry edges! got a AB like that. :D

Really nice work! I wish I had the patience. That's got to take some time and elbow grease.

Alright you've convinced me to renew the assault on my edges. I have a lot of trouble convincing the third of the edge nearest the tip to get sharp. I also don't have the patience to thin an edge out. I'll get back on it though. Way to set the bar. Nice work.
