User EDC slipjoint Pictures! No shinny unused knives allowed

Great photo, I really like the pocket worn look. This is the kind of stuff that makes this hobby so much fun.

Sunny, that is a real treasure.
I hope your grandkids appreciate it the way you do.

Hammer brand. It was bought recently and was apparently Flitz'd or something. Should be all nasty and tarnished soon. :)

This was my first store bought from the sporting goods store pocket knife. Got it about 30 some years ago in Colorado where Western knives were about all you could find seeing how they were made near Denver Colorado. I remember the sales clerk was bummed because he was going to buy it on payday and I beat him to it. I think the grooved bolsters were the big item. It's a model 742.

Those are some great old slipy's you guys have as well. I must agree with pa knives, when he says this is a 'fun hobby'. More like an obsession at times for me.. In that sprit, I would like to present the following 'Last Cast' e-zine piece written by my good friend Billy 'pup' Cochrane from vk.com. which he writes about once a month or so. This is not meant as spam... I ALWAYS enjoy reading his Last Cast articles partly because of his undieing love for old knives and related stuff but mostly for his story telling on this varied piece, which I wanted to share. Some of you may already receive this via email from him, so I will appologize in advance to those folks.

Hi!

I've been reading the forums for about 4 years, but this is my first post.. Here's my only traditional slip joint (for now :( )and my EDC for the last three years: a Boker medium stockman, 3 1/8 inches closed and carbon steel blades, jigged green bone handles (which actually are pitch black). I love this knife.

I have really learned to like traditional pocket knives thanks to you guys ;) The next one should already be on the way.

Mikko,
God Bless You! Let me Welcome you as well to your new home here at BF.com.. Stockman patterns are one of my all time favorites as well!..

I also love the basic little Harness Jack pattern and hope to get a few photos up on here soon. :)

Best~

Jeff,

that's what I'd call pocket worn! These kind of knives are what got me into slippies in the first place. Is that sheepsfoot flat or is a bit hollow ground? Can't quite tell from the pic.

And thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Although I've been reading the froums for so long I almost feel like I know all of you.

I think it is just plum wore out .. lol
Not quite sure what ya mean about being flat or hallow ground..
I have had this knife for approx 25 years.. my grand dad had it before..
I still go for it on occiasion for cuts when I need something when I can't find one of my other's .. this one sits on my shelf.. I would say this one has seen it's fair share of cutting in it's life time :)

I found a few old junkers while cleaning my brothers shed. These were probably found and brought here by my brothers dad when he used to work in the junk yard.

The top is an old barlow with one blade almost completely gone, and the other is an old camillus with a broken blade and missing handle inserts. :(
I'll probably find more as I continue cleaning.

My Case Yella Handle Mini Trapper (CV steel of course), love this thing, reminds me of one my dad had years and years ago. I just made it a leather sheath, which I really don't use, but I like it anyways. This guy rides my pocket 99% of the time.

I found this today in a parking lot, had so much rust on it I couldn't open it for the life of me. I used some PB spray on it, banged it around a bit and it finally opened. Well I just finished cleaning it up a bit and come to find out it's made by Camillus Cutlery. On the blade it has the Camillus logo and on the other side a "20", looked it up at their site and they apparently don't make it anymore. Neat find I would say

Nice find there Matt! An old Camillus Muscrat with the crimp bolsters and acorn sheild no less. Is that real bone?? Dayum Son.. good one too be sure either way. I also love my Case mini Trappers with CV as well.. You get much virtual green rep luv'in for those. ;)

Here is one that used to ride in my front right pocket for many years back all through the 1980's when I was on my Canoe kick. Just cleaned this one up with semichrome last week end and will probably carry it again soon after I put a proper edge back on it. Its a 1975 5 dot with very deep dark rich red bone. The picture does not due its true color justice..

Thanks!

It has some pitting but it was sharp as hell even before I cleaned it up and sharpened it. I like it a lot, thanks for the model name, I had no idea what it was. I'm starting to move away from the uber tactical mall ninja knives lately. I really enjoy opening up a nice slipjoint. I wish more companies would use a dating system like Case does. Like my Zippos, they have dating systems, but they are made in the same place, so yeah...

I like that Canoe, love the blade engraving. Semichrome? Never heard of it. I actually use Mothers Mag and Wheel Polish heh, works wonders.

Matt,
I was raised on traditional folders(now called slipjoints) and fixed knives and cannot bring myself to carry anything else with the only exception being a leatherman Wave, which I just started carrying at work, which my new employer paid for. :D

Semichrome is some great stuff for cleaning up old users to get the loose oxidation off. Then I apply Renissance micro-crystalline wax polish and man do those babies shine. Add 2-3 drops of machine oil on the joints and give it an edge and your good to go!

For really bad rusted knives I have an old mason jar filled with Johnsons Baby Oil (but any top quality mineral oil will work) which I just drop the knife into and let soak for at least 3-5 days depending on how bad the rust is. Mineral oil loosens all levels of rust and also conditions Ivory and Bone scales to boot.

As previously promised here on this thread I wanted to submit several of my Harness Jacks. This is a vintage Miller Brothers HJ in brown bone with tang stamps on both the master blade and the leather punch that read in three lines: Miller Bros., Cut Co., Meriden.. I have yet to properly date this puppy, but it is old. Maybe some other kind formite here could give a stab at it?!
