Good Morning,

If you had two Boss Jacks... a CG and an LE and you wished to keep one as a safe queen. Which would it be?

Would you choose the LE as the user for its better slicing? or choose the LE as a safe queen because its just too purty ?

Considering you are right in Halifax, I would keep the LE as a queen and the CG as a user. The salty humid air near the coast DOES NOT work well with satin blades in my limited experience! I live on a swamp...literally...and I still have to be careful with satin cutlery. I have most of my satin blades tucked away in a thin coat of mineral oil so I can leave them alone for the better part of a year, and not worry about rust or corrosion (yes...even INFI will rust over time). The CGs make great users for two reasons IMHO: you seldom worry about rust/corrosion, and the scuffs on a crinkle coat add character to a knife. Do what you will...but that is my 2 cents! Great knives; just be sure to use them well.

I think I would follow Brendens lead and keep the LE as the safe queen!!!

I just received my two Boss Jacks, and am in kind of the same boat. I also got an LE and a CG, but I planned on using the LE. They have a different "feel" to them, at least to me. The CG feels more "Busse-like", if you know what I mean. I was going to use the LE, because I have other "thick" Busses, and the LE is just different, being thin (for a Busse). I will probably end up using them both eventually, but if you only want to use one, I'd probably go with Russ and Brendan, and use the CG.

At the risk of jamming a stick in the spokes here , this is just a thought . I think it might depend on how sure you are of keeping both knives . Although personally I think a knife with the coating warn looks great because it shows it was actually used and enjoyed , if you decide to sell it you'll get less for it because most people want to put their own wear and tear on the knife . Where as the satin finish can be used alot (if not unreasonably abused) and still look like a safe queen after being cleaned up . Meaning if you sold them both after a few years , having used the satin finish would get you more of a return I think . If they are knives you know you'll never sell then that's different . In that case , use them both ! :D

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

Tough call, which do you personally like better, as in if you can only keep one?
The one you would sell should maybe be your safe queen and use your keeper.
Out of the three BJ's I have, the LE would be my keeper, it is almost as thick as an AK47 without all the length to leverage against it, so I know it will hold up fine.
The CG's are a little overbuilt for their size for me.

I would go with the CG as a user and LE as a safe queen just because of the semantics of it. If something is combat grade, it's meant to be used; a limited edition, why would you want to wear out something that will never be made again?

If you ever want to resell either of them, the LEs will bring you more money, so just build on that by keeping it in mint condition.

It also depends what you're using them for of course, but I feel the two are similar enough that you might be nitpicking over conveniences and details since they'll both handle what you throw at them.

Thanks for the replies all, please keep them coming!

I don't plan to sell/trade any of these.

I have an ASH1 CG double cut with tan and black g10 that I've had and used for a few years. It has served me very well and I have used that hard. Including on a CF aircrew winter survival course. However, it is a beast. Very heavy. If we had focused on the evasion aspect I imagine I would quickly be wanting for a lighter knife. I think the boss jack fits this role much better with still enough length to baton well.

I think I am leaning towards using the CG and keeping the LE as a safe queen for now.....or...........acquiring another LE!! (save me...)

I sold the original Blade West BJ Proto within two days of getting it because it was too FAT. :grumpy:

OTOH, on the day my BJ LE arrived, it was used to cut the steak for dinner.

My LE is s user..... and my stripped CG will be too.... Use 'em. It's Busse COMBAT for a reason.... beat 'em up. :)

I like to use satin finishes knives. My CG FBM finish didn't hold up to use very well and didn't look as "worn in" as I was hoping after a bit of use, so I sent it in to get stripped.

From here on out, I am not purchasing any coated knives, because I don't have any use for safe queens and like the way satin performs.
