Important info has been bolded, but please read the entire post!
Hey all! I'm continuing to move blades that have been replaced in my rotation by different configurations of the same model (940 and the Para 3 Cruwear), as well as blades that aren't going to get any use (Franken Native 5). The Benchmade 940 and Spyderco Cruwear Sprint Para 3 have both seen use while the Franken-Native 5 was built from left-over components of the Native 5 I made to suit my preferences (blade swapped the Maxamet sprint with the CPM154/S90V sprint). The CF CPM154/S90V Native 5 was sold to me as BNIB and while I can't remember what the Maxamet Native 5 was sold to me as, it looked to be in excellent condition when I received it. Obviously though, given the blade swap, the resulting knife is no longer in "BNIB" condition. However, all of these knives are in great working condition with varying degrees of cosmetic wear, and in my opinion, would make excellent users! To avoid cluttering up the thread, detailed photos of each individual knife can be found by clicking on the hyperlink in the name of each knife. Prices are (obviously) in Canadian dollars.
*SOLD* Benchmade 940 (User) $140 *SOLD*
- Has been brought to work by myself and used a few times; carried more than it's been used though
- Some small scratches on the blade from use; noticeable, but not readily apparent. They are there though.
- There are wear marks on the handle scales; most of the more noticeable marks are located on the top/back of the knife where the scales meet the backspacer near the front (pivot end) of the knife with a few more on the butt of the knife. There are some other small marks on various areas of the handle scales. See linked photos for further details.
- Centering appears to favour the show side (LH side) slightly although the pivot tension has been tuned by me to be smooth and free-dropping so this could likely be sorted out by adjusting pivot screw.
- Speaking of the action, as the knife is currently, it has some slight horizontal play when the blade is deployed. There is no vertical play as far as I can tell.
- I sent the knife in to Benchmade to have the Omega Springs in the AXIS lock replaced in January of this year; the knife was also sharpened and all the hardware was replaced. The grind appears to be even and I haven't really used the knife since, just carried it a few times cut one or two small packages open.
- During it's time with me, I've maintained the knife on my Sharpmaker and occasionally disassembled it for cleaning (I haven't done either since it's been returned to me from Benchmade though)
- I'm the original owner; knife comes with box (box was a little beat up when I bought the knife a couple years ago), pouch, etc and supporting docs (from Omega Spring replacement done under warranty)
*SOLD* Spyderco Para 3 Cruwear (User) $180 *SOLD*
- Has been brought to work a couple of times; carried more than it's been used to cut things (which isn't a whole lot in my estimation)
- Centering currently favours the right-hand side slightly (Golden, Colorado side); the blade doesn't rub on the inside of the scales or liners though and this is with the current pivot tension
- Pivot tension has been loosened ever so slightly by me when I first got the knife for a smooth and free-dropping action; however, this came at the expense of some very slight horizontal blade play
- The edge has been maintained on my Sharpmaker, although currently, it could probably use a touch-up/sharpening, there's still lots of life left in the blade. However, given it's been used and maintained, I'm going to say that it does not have a factory edge
- In the interest of full disclosure, when I first got the knife, the pocket clip screws kept coming loose and as a result, the clip left a small and hard to notice wear mark on the right-hand scale where it contacts the G10 from regular rubbing as a result of the loose screws. The problem was solved soon after I noted it via Spyderco sending me brand-new clip screws which are currently (still) blue-loctited into place and the slightly worn area isn't really visible with the clip in the RH tip up position. I neglected to remove the clip to photograph the wear mark for fear of restarting an already solved problem (I haven't touched the clip with a torx driver since fixing the issue), but I can upon further request.
- I'm the original owner and I've maintained the knife during it's time with me on my Sharpmaker and I've disassembled it a few times for cleaning.
- Knife comes with box, papers, etc.
Spyderco Franken-Native 5 (CPM 154/S90V & Maxamet) $160
Since this isn't a stock knife from the factory, I'll do a little bit of explaining before I dive into the details. I bought both the Grey FRN Maxamet and Peel-ply CF CPM154/S90V Native 5's off the exchange here with the express purpose of doing a blade swap so I'd end up with the Maxamet blade in the CF handle (with liners). The CF CPM154/S90V Native 5 was sold to me as BNIB and while I can't remember what condition the Maxamet Native was sold to me in, it was in excellent condition in my opinion; it looked like it had maybe been carried a little bit and hadn't cut much, if anything. Given that my goal was to make and hold onto a Maxamet/CF Native, this one was made with the other parts and since reassembling it, I haven't carried or used it due to a complete lack of interest on my part, so it's being moved so it can find a more appreciative owner! It's my hope that the tougher sabre ground CPM154/S90V blade combined with the very practical and attractive grey FRN handle will make this an excellent work knife for someone!
- During its time with me, I carried the stock Native 5 Maxamet a couple of times, but I can't find any noticeable or obvious wear marks anywhere on the FRN scales. I never cut anything with the CPM154/S90V blade
- Centering looks to be dead on; however, given that the blade stock on this blade is much thicker for more of the height of the blade than the FFG Maxamet blade that the grey FRN handle was originally paired with, the blade does rub on the inside of the FRN scales roughly where the sabre grind starts midway through the blade from what I can see
- The blade locks up rock solid with no play in the horizontal or vertical dimensions
- The action is excellent for a back lock (much better than the action on my Fraken-Native 5 to my slight disappointment); it's very smooth to open and close and depressing and holding the lock bar to release tension allows the blade to rotate freely!
- Haven't had to maintain the knife or sharpen it for for obvious reasons during it's short time with me; however, I did partially disassemble the knife (again, obviously) to swap the blade out and when I did, I lubed the pivot with some oil before reassembling the knife
- I'm not the original owner; the knife comes with the Native5 CF CPM154/S90V box
I'll entertain offers, but I believe I've priced these pretty fairly. I'm also not looking for any trades at this time. If you're going to make an offer other than the posted price, please either PM me or leave a vistor's message on my profile. I'll accept payment either by EMT or by Paypal (G&S only); same price for either payment method (I pay the PP fees). Shipping is included to most Canadian addresses and would normally be by Canada Post Xpresspost (and would include tracking, signature confirmation on delivery, and insurance), however, as of Oct. 17, 2018, with the impending strike by Canada Post workers, I'd be more than happy to ship via the courier of your choice until the Canada Post job action is resolved.
First "I'll take it" posted in the thread or by PM/VM gets it. After that, I'll expect to have the funds within 24 hours of the post, after which the claim will expire and whoever's next in line gets a chance at it.
Miscellaneous Info:
- I live on the West Coast and work some early mornings, so replies/messages/email after about 10:00pm Vancouver time might not be answered until the following day
- I can work long hours and I don't work at a desk, so I'll try my best to respond quickly to any queries and such, but I may not be able to always respond right away.
- After purchase and upon delivery, please contact me if you're unhappy with a knife you've bought from me in any way! I'm confident that if you're unhappy, we can work something out to our mutual satisfaction.
- If you need more pictures or have any other questions, just ask! I'll be happy to accomodate!
Thanks for looking!
