Uses of a Radius Platen...??

Please excuse my complete and utter ignorance but I'm just curious what it is exactly the radius platen can do that my flat platen, large, and small contact wheels cannot..??

Create a hollow grind much larger than any readily available wheel on the market. The only radius platens I am aware of come in a 36" and 48" radius.

Give you a radius of a huge wheel without having a huge wheel. Huge as in over 14 inches easily.
