usgi poncho liner

I loved my poncho liner.... carried it like a woobie for the ten years I was in the military. It does extra duty as a light blanket/ sleeping bag (if you use the ties when folded) or a ground cover with the poncho used for overhead shelter. Mine was woodland camo so it could be used for quick camo if needed. It helps a bit if the temp drops while using the poncho in the rain.

There were times I carried the liner and left the poncho at home if rain was not a problem. All in all, it's a great peice of gear.....light weight and compact.
Hope this helps.

I did the same only double the years.

I still have my original one and the two others that I bought over the years now belong to my kids.

I've used it everywhere from Korea to the PNW to Egypt, Israel, Kuwait, Iraq and Saudi. You can't go wrong with one of these.

I have a question?!

If the don't originally come with a hole for your head, how do you wear it under your poncho?

Ahh ok. I had always assumed you wore it under your poncho while tromping through the woods.

While we're on the subject, anyone know where to get just the right sized stuff-bag for a popncho liner? The ones I just got from Wiggy's seem stiffer and bulkier than the originals but they're VERY nice.

Man, that's the one place I loved the most as I bumped around in the Army. It was such a grat place that my wife and I consider the three years we lived there our honeymoon.:D NO other place was ever as great as when we lived there.

I'm glad you asked, because I had just been assuming these were used that way too! I don't have one (yet, thanks to this thread!).

I can't seem to find one that's the exact size as mine though. Do a few inches difference matter much when you're just laying down with it?

I am still kind of confused about the whole thing. Unless you use your Poncho as a sleeping bag, then I could understand poncho liner. But it seems more like a ground cloth/blanket/light sleeping bag, than a "liner" to me. However that conversion kit is enticing.

The wiggys softens up after several washings. I have 3 wiggys, one cheap china one and my original 20 year old one. The 20 year old one fits inside my cargo pant pocket. The china one is much thicker and so are the wiggys but they do compress down to probably the smallest size stuff sack that you can get from a sporting goods store. I roll my wiggys and strap it, no stuff sack required.

Another vote for Wiggy's. It is an excellent liner for the price. I've used mine in some pretty cold conditions and it stays warm even when wet. It makes a great ground pad too. Inside my Henessy hammock, it is an excellent flexible alternative to a sleeping pad that still is thick enough to ward off any skeeters trying to bite you through the bottom in your bottom.
