Greetings,

Could not find an appropriate thread for this post so....

Any one have any experience using Argon in the oven during the HT process? Is it cost effective versus foil? Is is better, worse than foil?

I do sometimes if the part shape doesn't lend itself to foil. But for knives I find foil more effective and less expensive.

Thanks,

That's the kind of feed back I was hoping for... What do you place inside the foil to remove the oxygen?

Thanks again....

Squeeze as much air out as you can. The believe the foil is designed to absorb any remaining oxygen inside the packet.

A better question, how about filling your foil with argon? At double the weight, it should be easy enough to keep in the pouch while you seal it.

I don't put anything in the foil, it isn't necessary and you're just adding trash to interfere with a good plate quench.

What small amount of air that starts in there is miniscule and causes no problems. Where you run into trouble is if the packet isn't really sealed well and air is getting in. If you double seam the foil and roll it out tight you should have no problems.
