When trying to use materials that would be "Period correct" before the advent of stainless. Could I just use a number 6 or number 8 penny nail cut off. Then either plum brown or flame blue?
I realize the I would be using a modern day epoxy, but on a particular knife I wanted everything externally to be period correct. Using a carbon steel blade, and guard with an Osage handle, and a carbon steel pin.

What is your question? Is it about the plum brown or flame blue? I use mild steel round bar all the time for pin stock if that's your real question. I think it would add a nice user patina on the pins to match the patina on the blade.

Yes, that was my question, sorry it seemed so convulted. So, probably left alone and allowed to achieve natural patina as the blade is used. I think that is what I will do. Thanks

Nails are fine. You can't flame blue it once it's installed.
