Off Topic Using collectable or rare knives

I have a Spyderco Manix 2 xl EDC forums GITD I picked up because I frequemt massdrop quite often. While looking to pickup some other discontinued Spydercos I see this k ife going for 250+ new on eBay.

Question; do you guys use your Spydercos that fetch collector type prices? Would people call it a waste to use such knives?

All of my knives I've gotten cleaned up look new because I have so many and spread the use out between them all. I've already sharpened and used this knife so I'm sure that kills price.
 
Regardless if it's a Sprint,Exclusive or Rare because it is OOP.
Why let the other guy have the fun of breaking it in.

In my case it depends on the knife. I've bought a few limited edition Spydercos with the intent of using them, then didn't because they had gone up in value. I sold those and bought others. I eventually decided that it was a shame not to use them so I when I bought other limited models later I bought them with the intent of using them and I do use them. I rarely buy knives that really go up in value. I think if I did I would sell them and buy something to actually use, kind of like selling an expensive knife to buy 2 user knives.
 
depends if you are a user or a collector. i have more users than collectors but i have a few collectors. didnt buy them that way on purpose. just dont want to use them now that the prices are so high and i have others that work well. nothing wrong with either system.

so use it if ya want or dont. thats also why many buy 2 of the same knife. best of both worlds if one can afford to do that.
 
I for sure use my GITD Manix 2; and all my other sprints and special editions.

It's a crime to let a knife languish it's life away in a box.
 
I figured that those people selling new in box old awsome discontinued knives either have a ton of knives, or buy multiples like some people mentioned here. And I've seen many here look at this hobby as art so I guess I understand why I see so many nice knives for sale. Is there a thread where people show their beatup knives?

Wait, you're telling me there are people that buy Spyderco knives and they DON'T use them???! That is just CRAAAAAAZY! :D
 
I use them or if I don't, I get rid of them asap. I pay no attention whatsoever to the "going prices" of any Spyderco knife, and so that is not a consideration for me in whether to use a knife or not.
 
I use all of mine. My most expensive knives all look like they have been thru a war.

None were more than about $200 each though.
 
I use all of mine too. I have a few sprint runs and they see just as much work as my other knives.
 
I used to be very paranoid about ruining the aftermarket value of my knives, then I realized if I were to somehow break it, if I really miss it that much ill just buy it at the secondary price. No sense obsessing over a 50-100 dollar loss on something that will probably never fail to begin with.
