im sure this h been disused before but i always like fresh input.
So last weekend i was at the CKG show and i purchased a Strider SJ75, Iv loved the knife since I first saw it.
Its a great knife and the most expensive knife i own or have ever owned.
The only issue is im having a very hard time using it i just play with it.
Why is it so hard to use a tool that is absolutely made to be used?
Who else has this issue?

and borrowed pic of my purchase

I think we all have that problem. I use all my knives at some point... But there is nothing wrong with you if you buy a "fondling" knife...

I had this issue early on in my knife love affair and eventually just got over it.
These knives are made to use, have great warranties, and make awesome users.
In my case it's CRK not Strider.
They are fun to play with but that's just part of the fun.
Don't hesitate to use it.
I'm sure it won't disappoint you and nothing will go terribly wrong like we sometimes think it will.
If anything you'll just appreciate the knife more and the smoothness over time and little marks.
It will be your faithful friend for life and you'll feel that with more use.

I may add I also once lost a ZT 350 so im kind of afraid of this one hoping out of my pocket as well.

There are some to be fondled and some to be used, that one is definitely to be used. I wouldn't hesitate for a second, I love the SJ75s, and will have one some day!

Bladechick said it best.
For me after the first scratch on the blade I have no problem using a knife.....and yes I have the same problem as you haha some times it takes a lonnngg time to get that first scratch...

I never really feel like a knife is MINE until I use it. To me, thhere is a huge difference between a knife in a drawer, and a knife that has become an old friend through use. I buy knives to use them, even the expensive ones (especially the expensive ones).

That being said, I thoroughly believe that we should all just enjoy this hobby in whatever way makes us happiest.

I have this problem. Usually I solve it by altering something about the knife that makes me like it more. Now if I found a "perfect" knife I might be in trouble. :)

I use all of my knives; that's what they were designed for!

What do you term expensive? I have a few customs by Nealy, Crawford, Dozier, Cover and just recently got my first Sebenza, all users all nicked, marked and scratched.

All my Spydercos and Benchmades get used, although I do have about a half a dozen knives I don't use or carry only because they're rare, discontinued or vintage mint traditionals.

If it were me, if use it.

Check out the traditional subforum and you'll see knives made in the 1900s that are well used but still going strong and they're made from "less advanced" materials. If you know how to take care of knives they'll last decades. If something does mess up send it to Strider and they'll take care of it.

The way I think about it is, I don't buy my knives to hang up like a painting. Therefore, it's either keep them at home, or use them. If I keep them at home, then where's the value? Just leave it there, rusting away? The only way to truly enjoy a knife is to use it, and to not use it is to waste money on something pretty. If I wanted a pretty knife, 440A steel would serve well. So I just use it, and if I ever lose it (not yet, knock on wood), well at least I got more value than if I kept it safe.

Everybody will have their own limit as to what they feel comfortable carrying. My EDC rotation contains Spyderco Gayle Bradley, Benchmade 913, Benchmade 581, and a ZT 0561. I have no compulsion carrying these but I won't beat up on them. I also have a blue Para2 and that one I have had second thoughts about carrying, partly because of its increased value and partly because of its rarity. For anyone that wants to collect them, if I carry it and beat up on it then that is one less that is available for a collector. But it isn't all that much more expensive than the value of a lightly used ZT 0561.

I wouldn't worry about scratching that one up if you EDC it. It has a working finish and smooth g10, neither of which really scratch all that easy. I say go ahead and use it.

I just got a SJ75 today in the mail. 10 minutes later I left to go to school and it was in my pocket.
It's my current grail. My other expensive user is my Paramilitary 2 with m390 blade steel and John Grimsmo titanium scales, around $450ish total.

There are so many high value folders out there. You just don't need to spend an insane amount of money to have a great knife. I'll carry my Sebenza one day and the next I'll have my Tenacious or Leek in my pocket. I love and use them all!

Only knife I don't/will never use is worth between $6k-$7k

Use it, get the most out of it, don't look back..

Striders....especially are begging to be used. Sure you'll get the occasional scratch here and there but that gives the knife character.
But that stonewash on the SJ will hide any scratches and marks really well. So as long as your using your knife for normal edc tasks you
shouldn't notice much any damage at all.

If I ever acquired a $400+ knife I'm sure there will a grace period where it never see's the inside of a pocket, but when that clears up I'll use the knife. I don't think I'll ever use one of that price hard though. Even if it is meant to be thrashed on. That's why I buy $20 knives lol.

I recently just lost my favorite EDC knife...I'm still hoping it pops up somewhere, someday. But I finally bit the bullet and stepped up a few price points and "splurged"on an Emerson Endeavor to replace my beloved Tenacious. I. Can't. Wait. To USE it!
