well i want to use my kmg to sharpen my knives instead of my little 1" one.
do you guys us a gage or a jig to sharpen yours. i don't want to mess up and put to big a bevel on them.
i like a 17 degree on mine, so what do you like?

ps: any pix would be nice if you got one.

use the slack belt attachment and hod the knife to the angle your happy with for sharpening. or sharpen behind the wheel or platen attachment. that should work.
I am only using a craftsman but using the 2" belt above the platen does fine.

I set a bevel guage on the platen to line up the blade at the angle I want and then move the blade into the belt. I start with a 220 to remove most of the metal and then 320 to finish. I use a 12 - 15 degree on each side depending on the size of the blade and the final use. the 12 will sharpen well for slicing but my not have alot of edge life, the 15 lasts much longer. at 12 I can get about 20 cuts in 1/2" rope with 15 I get over 50.

Try this..... with your flat platen in place on the machine, use the area of slack belt between the idler/tracking wheel, and the top wheel of the platen. Its not so easy if the machine is a single speed, but works well on a variable speed machine at about 25-30% on the controller. I do this, using a worn out 400 grit belt for what I call "working" edges. Since very blade/edge is a bit different, I do it freehand. You'll be surprised at how quickly you will get the feel for it.
