Using my axes, again.

Good for you. Some who burn wood don't do that. It is needed, especially when burning pine, spruce, juniper... The cedars.
Even at that price those wood vendors earn every dollar. DM

Yes, a wood guy should get paid fairly for "real work", especially dealing with the hardwoods on a daily basis.
I found a couple of good resource (I think) for firewood equipment and firewood sellers,
the sellers are listed by each state-https://www.logsplitters.com/firewood/
Equipment=https://www.lumbermenonline.com/

Another neighbor came by yesterday- & he is almost out of wood
Another cord of rounds being processed today. I love Texans, they pay up front, and pick it up themselves. Good neighbors are nice to have.
Now my search is going to get serious for a source of hardwood logs or rounds for this next winter coming!
Have a great day!

That's a good neighbor. Glad your tracking down some hardwood.
Do you have an insert in you fireplace? DM
Yes Sir.
We currently are using a Vermont Castings with the insert in the back wall.
It recirculates/returns the fumes and I can control the incoming airflow plus have a dampener that feeds the insert instead of all the heat going out the flue.
Took a month of straight usage to figure out how it likes to be run, but when I go outside and look at my stove pipe exiting our roof = there is no smoke billowing out. Our town mayor lives just down the road, he isn't doing something right as all day thru the cold months heavy thick smoke billows out of his 2 wood stove pipes/flues.
I hand pick our wood that we burn, and I handpick any wood I let leave here, checking it for dryness.
Thumbs up !

Our Vermont Castings stove is a Defiant Encore model.
I plan to buy a soapstone stove in the future but this Vermont is like new still, the previous owners of this house barely used it in the winters. So will run this until I can't, then rebuild it and move it to my shop, & get a soapstone stove.

I am just about finished cutting up the huge log pile/delivery; 57000 lbs of logs!
Knowing I have cut, moved, and now stacked all 57000 lbs of rounds makes me sure of 1 thing=
It is all in your head, mind over matter!
Determination wins, and we stay warm!
;)

Yes, it is. You now have enough wood to keep you warm for 3 yrs..
Pace yourself and stay healthy. You procure oak unsplit somethings will be different. This will have been a good warm up. Good luck. DM

Thank you, yes that is certainly true about the oak. I found several sources a few hours away advertising oak cords and mixed cords- near Colorado Springs Colorado.
Hoping to get a few cords of oak, split it up then begin burning a mix of the pine and the oak.
Also have been reaching out to local Tree Removal Service Companies and landscapers, plus the electric/utility companies for dibs on wood or logs that they remove from their customers yards.
Lots of opportunities out there for wood!

Those 2 companies are excellent to extend an oliver branch to. If one comes thru for you, be sure in some way they will remember you. Even so that wood likely won't be cured. It doesn't matter. You'll be in good shape just getting it. You can rotate it in next winter. DM

Plus, we've had a lot of windy days here. Thus. I'll take some time and drive a few of the dirt roads, looking for blown down limbs. When I find some I pull over and ask at the nearest house, if I could cut that limb up and haul it off for them. They usually don't mind. Do a nice neat job. I've gotten a cord out of 1 limb before. DM

Mission accomplished!
The delivery of logs (57000 lbs. 18-20 cords) is now cut, stacked and seasoning!
the crazy fit, determined guy!
The trusty axes are up next-
no wood-splitter- all by hand & by me!AB3D0BF4-07AF-4E2F-9CB3-E11F54667255.jpeg 13EE5A59-43C3-459F-9928-DD7AB2E473F5.jpeg 4965728D-9B78-4F82-99DF-080D39F75E68.jpeg

At a boy, Mike. I'm wondering if you are getting hit with another winter storm? The way it looks Denver is. Pine bark makes good kindling. DM

Thank you!
I looked at the used wood splitter a neighbor was trying to sell on this past Monday, but he could not get it started after letting it sit outside this winter.
It had moisture in the spark plug area so I passed in purchasing it unless he gets it serviced and running well.
We have been getting snow on and off all day and are expecting a major snowstorm tonight & until tomorrow afternoon. Some areas near us are expecting 8-12"...
Hoping it passes us without too much snow, but we are pretty used to it now.
Thumbs up!

Likely, it's the ethanol in the fuel. Or old gas. Clean the carburetor , put in fresh ⛽ gas and spark plug. Then it may run.
It snowed on us most all day yesterday, 2" not melted. Then we got 2" more during the night. It looks like more is coming. 28* here with 20 mph west wind, makes for a frigid day. I'm stuffing the oak logs in it. DM

Stay warm!
We got spared, the snow missed us here completely.
Thanks for the tips on the gas engine, I think he may have found a bigger problem, have not heard back from him in a week.
It's all good, I enjoy using the axes and the challenge of splitting all the pine into burnable size pieces by hand.
I got lucky and found several big logs that had been standing dead,
are very very dry, and burning nicely in the wood stove.

Yes Sir, my routine is changing as well-
I now start the fire in the wood stove around the time the sun is setting each evening to keep everything warmer overnight. Then I don't keep it stoked up while sleeping. Each morning around
5 am I will start a new fire, but let it burn down around 8am and none thru the daytime.
We are getting into warmer daytime temps and nighttime temps soon won't go much below freezing.
Working lately on seasoning my wood and organizing the wood yard area. I picked up 20 pallets to keep the split wood off the ground over this summer and into fall. Fortunately Ponderosa Pine seasons pretty fast, and I can feel the differences quickly in how weighed previously and now as it dries and gets split up.
I also found a good (affordable) source for Piñon near Taos NM and a buddy in Texas that sponsors hunting trips for Veterans/Disabled Veterans has acres of land with blown down hickory, oak, pecan, and mesquite near Kerrville Texas that I can drive down to, cut, load, and return.
Checking into laws about crossing "state lines" with wood now.
Thanks and have a great Springtime!B74E7B6C-5E8E-4FAB-B798-6D3B5C91EA9D.jpeg
