I have some AEB-L, and will be making some chef knives. After cutting the blanks, I'll have some remnants.
Can some of the remnants be used for end caps and/or spacers for the handle without heat treatment? Is there any difference between the stainless qualities of AEB-L with versus without heat treatment?
Also, if using them as an end cap for the handle, what would be the best way to attach the cap to the handle with a blind hole? Should a pin be inserted and peened to provide some mechanical attachment in addition to epoxy or is there a better method?
Thanks for any advice.
