Using Shapton with King?

Another couple of questions popped into my mind, can you jump from chosera 3k to naniwa 8k snow white or will I need a 5k chosera between, and would you recommend the naniwa 220 super or some other low grit stone for bevel starting? I do have a DMT coarse/fine combo stone, if that would work, but was not sure if it would work well with waterstones.
