So many have asked in the past about the magic stone and how it is used. Well, here it is.

An apprentice applies a glue to a buffing wheel and rolls it in the stone. In primitive shops they use the stone by applying it to a strap of leather or canvas, usually using hot beeswax to get the stone to stick.

Uncle Bill, which Khukuris are the magic stones used on? I'm just wondering. My Gelbu Special keeps getting sharper every time I clean it.
 
Now that's just weird. When I looked at this topic last night I could see the pictures. Now all I get up there is the broken graphic symbol. Look's like the problems are continuing!

Blade Forums is definitely having problems with their dl software. Lately I've had a near-impossible time getting my daily HI Forum Fix. Ad banners at the top of the page load, then the dl stops dead. Going back and forth from threads to topic list via Netscape's 'Back' control is a struggle. I've found that reloading helps sometimes, and resizing the screen will sometimes force completion of a list or pic dl. I've e-mailed Spark about this, and his reply acknowledged the problem, but unfortunately didn't give much assurance of a quick fix. gunhou
 
I'm back at home now. I was at work using a Win NT PC running Netscape 4.7 before. Now I'm using a Power Mac running OS 8.6 and Netscape 4.7. My ISP is Earthlink. Everything looks fine now. I'm seeing all the pictures. I have definitely had the problem with a "blank load." I have bookmarks for the Spyderco forum and the HI forum and sometimes after I click on them I just get the banner ads and nothing else. The little N in the corner stops and it says document done. Like you said Bill, reload _usually_ works although sometimes I end up doing it numerous times in a day. A month or two ago I don't remember having that problem.

I troubleshoot computers for a living so I know what fun it can be trying to track down weird HTML problems!

FYI, I'm getting the threads and the ads, but am unable to view any of Bill's pix. I keep getting the broken graphic icon.

For the past few days up until this afternoon I haven't even been able to access any of the forums at bladeforums.com.

I hope they get these bugs worked out quick. I never realized I was addicted to the HI forum until I wasn't able to access it!

This is sure a different forum. Look at the "Whales of Nepal" thread and where it went!
Gangetic Dolphins, riparian rights, ettiquette of dealing with grey whales, ( and inadvertently to the Lumbini thread about Buddha's birthplace ).

There's way too many people way too educated about way too many things for someone to play the blowhard without getting harpooned, but questions asked out of ignorance and open curiousity get answered courteously. Act nice and they treat you nice right back. Let me know if you figure it out - I quit trying to figure it out, and started enjoying it a while back.
 
Bladeforums has been down due to server problems -- details in the General forum. Looks like it's going to be down once more before this is all over, hopefully not for long this time. The good news is everything should be running much faster soon.

The problem with Photopoint lately is because while Bladeforums was down the first time Mike & Spark thought it would a good time to upgrade to the latest version of UBB, and that has a security feature that's rejecting any image URL with a "?" in it. That should be fixed soon. In the meantime you can still post a link to Photopoint; the security feature doesn't reject links with a "?" in them, only images.

I don't know why you can't see the pics in this thread, X-Head; I can see them fine....
