• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Using the Spyderco Sharpmaker For Sharpening Scandi Blade?

Yes, just put the stones in the horizontal slots and use it like a traditional stone, then you can lay the scandi edge down and sharpen it, don't use it in the vertical "V" slots or you'll add a secondary bevel. (unless you want a secondary bevel, but then it's not really a scandi anymore)

If you're going to use the sharpmaker, do as michaelm suggests and lay the stones horizontal. It's still not ideal because a Scandi edge bevel might be four times (or more) wider than a typical knife with a secondary edge, which means you have to remove 4x as much metal to accomplish the same thing. So bigger is better. If you've got chips or rolls on the edge, you can always buy some coarser sandpaper and lay it on a flat surface to make a bigger "stone". Then finish the sharpening with the smaller sharpmaker hones.

You can put a micro bevel and it works perfectly......sharpen it as any other knife!!!!!!

There's no reason you can't use the sharpmaker with the rods upright, just make sure you're matching the angle of the grind. you most likely will be holding the knife at an angle but it's pretty easy to match the edge angle with a scandi grind because it has such a large bevel. that said, i can't much think of a reason to use the stones upright instead of like a bench stone but it is possible.
