I bought the cast ductile iron tomahawk drift from Blacksmith depot

The widest point is about 2" from the top and it tapers past that point. There is an asymmetry creating a tear drop profile so front to back is easy to discern.
I'm not using this to wrap and weld. I'm using this to finalize the shape of the eye after using a round drift to get close to the correct sizing.
Should I hammer the drift down so the widest point sits flush with the top of my hawk eye?
