using the wave

I've had my Commander for about a month now, and like it. My question is this: The thing is so sharp, and the blade comes out so rapidly using the Wave, that I find that I almost have to pause before opening the knife so that I won't cut myself.

Has anyone figured out any tricks that allow rapid access / opening without getting fingers in the way?

Thanks...

Lots of practice and care in opening this very sharp knife (no tricks). My fingers don't get in the way when I open mine fast. I think the grip is the key to keeping fingers intact (uncut). I use a strong grip between thumb on one side and forefinger and ring finger on the other (clip) side. My last two fingers are almost in a fist and do not touch the blade. Fast without a wave requires a bit of a twist so the notch doesn't catch on the pocket.

Many times I want my Commander to come out slowly and carefully, so I will actually hold the blade shut using thumb pressure on the top of the spine while carefully pulling it out (back pocket) with just a bit of twist. You don't want your thumb right at the top, just close to it because if the tip has come even slightly open, you will get cut. The tip of mine is very sharp so I put my thumb on the spine a little ways from the tip. That way even if the tip does or has come slightly open, my thumb forces it closed again.

Hope this makes sense. It works for me.
