Using your EDC at a restaurant

The photos of folders next to cut food on a plate always look out of place for me. Check out any knife photo threads: food looks all torn apart, knife is all in fat and sauce looking anti-hygienic... So as that kind of photo goes: the one here is about as nice as it gets (considering that nobody really has any reason to cut a sushi with a knife).

So does anybody picks his nose with a finger: sure that beats about any other way of clearing it? Let's discuss!

I will use mine to cut meat at certain restaurants- I used my sebenza for cutting a steak last week. I received no negative comments and one compliment from one of our friends that we were eating with. At home I use it for any and everything.

Don't typically use my EDC in restaurants, but I just found out that that thanks to Knife Rights, I could cut my steak with an auto in public here in Texas as of 8/27. Would probably fire under the table, though.;)

Do it all the time, the waiter just smiles and walks away, who cares about others reaction, not my problem.

I regularly use my BM 707 or 480 to cut food. They are elegant enough. My Emerson A100 with serrated edge could be scary though.

I've done it a few times. I used my Zaan the first time it did it. It's soo much easier with a sharp knife. I should do it more often.

I try to keep the blade off the plate tho.

You should try using my sushi knives. It wont fold down the sushi as shown.

but yeah all of my knives are 'sushi' grade. Why I xhose this profession; infinite sushi and sharpest knives imaginable.

It's rare that I go out to eat, but if I do I usually end up using my own knife to cut food up if it needs cut. I have yet to come across a sharp knife at a restaurant.

I've never needed a pocketknife at a restaurant. They usually have adequate utensils. I don't particularly care for steak so maybe that's why.

Grinding my knife edge against a ceramic plate sounds awful. I'm also not a fan of getting food stuck in my folder unless I have no other option.
If you can casually and respectfully use your knife in public, I see no problem.
but...

I view my knife as a tool but someone else may see it as a weapon. I think knife users should be respectful of other's views.
I have a problem with self-appointed black-ops commandos who think it's cool to scare "sheeple" in restaurants. People like that should turn in their knives and grow up.

Some of you may need to find better restaurants if the steak is so tough that the supplied serrated knife can't cut it, haha. ;)

I carry a Blimd Horse Knives Brumby Lite or one of JKs knives whever I go out to a restaurant, and have no qualms about using it. Often it sits, inside the leather sheath, next to my other utensils from the time I sit down. I've never gotten a look either.

I usually have my Becker BK-14 or Esee-3 I'll use at restaurants. I prefer the 14 since it is small and unobtrusive and has a zytel handle that easily cleans up. I've even used my BK-16 and a Mora once when that was all I had on me. The biggest knife I ever used in a restaurant was a Blackjack Mini-Mamba once when I was a teenager. That was probably pushing it, but no one said anything. It worked pretty well on steak.

I've never had anyone remark on my blades or give me dirty looks, but then again, I live in a state where it's no big deal and everyone carries a folder at the very least.

I've found that people tend to STOP seeing all knives as weapons once they see them actually being used.

My pocketknives:
-Cardboard: check
-Fiberglass: check
-Wood: check
-Paper: check
-Food: check

Just use em already. :)

I've done it several times. Mainly with steak; sometimes at oriental diners where they almost never put any knives on the table.
I'm no good using chopsticks and don't like putting half a cow or chicken in my mouth at once.

Actually, I think people like you should be the ones to turn your knives in and grow....a pair.

Would I ever purposely scare the "sheeple"? No of course not. But if the need ever arises to use my knife (and that may or may not include cutting a steak) then I'm going to use my knife. If today's feminized, overly sensitive men & women find that offensive, then thats their problem not mine. Personally, I'm tired of having to walk on eggshells to appease these wimps and succumb to their politically-correct utopian fantasy world. I carry a gun legally to protect my wife and children. I carry and use a knife legally to cut things that need to be cut. How about instead of us having to be "respectful of other's views" as you put it, how about THEY start becoming a little more respectful of our God-given rights??

Occasionally I pull out my edc fixed blade on a steak - after I have asked for a different knife. :D

I ask the waitress if she can get me a "Sharp Knife" if the first one supplied doesn't seem good enough.

THEN, if the 2nd one draws a heavy vacuum, I'll say something like, "Tell the manager he needs to get his knives sharpened." and pull out my own.

If that won't cut it, then I ask for the manager to comment on his steak.:thumbdn:

Just a couple weeks ago I used my Manix 2 to cut a slice of my Subway sandwich for my 5 yr old. I was hoping people were looking so that they would know what a nice knife I had but I bet no one gave a crap.
