Finally something to show. A small EDC for a good friend of mine. A prior Marine as you probably deduced by the USMC. It's a take-down that I like to make so much. I am exploring engraving more and more and I found out that engraving on a curved surface is a whole new opportunity to practice swearing and throwing stuff around. ;)

Blade length: 3.875” OAL: 8.25”
Grind: Flat
Steel: AEB-L
Handle: African Blackwood
Fittings: Bronze, Stainless steel
Take-Down Construction

As always, with the limited shop time I have, too much time passes between using some skills and I loose the muscle memory needed. I am hoping that I can get a lot of said shop time soon and have more to show you Ladies and Gents. And hopefully make some real progress in the process.

Thanks for looking and as always, feedback is more than welcomed.

Patrice, that's quite a piece there.

How did you do the nice, even grooves in the wood?
Good choices of where to embellish, IMO.

Very nice work Patrice. The engraving looks good. It's not easy to do. How was the bronze to cut? I have tried brass, and it's not very friendly.
Maybe another angle picture? I'd like to see the engraving from the top of the handle.

Darcy:)

Very cool Patrice, I don't think I've seen a knife from you with carving or engraving. Very cool!

If I had one critique I have to say my eye is drawn to the nut and washer on the butt. From this angle it looks like a bolt! Can you post a photo of the back end?

Hope you get that extra shop time so we can see more like this!

very eyecatching design. its nice to see something out of the ordinary that is also attractive.

Simply beautiful.

First, thanks once again for the good words, guys, really means a lot to me.

Darcy, here is a picture from the back.

I can't tell you exactly what kind of bronze this is. I need to check with my supplier. Silicon bronze maybe? I cuts great as long as your gravers are sharp. If they are not, it has a tendency to “chip”. And gravers should always be sharp anyway for nice bright cuts.

Clint, you are so right my friend. That nut is not what I had envisioned. Health issues and time constraints forced me to “settle” for that. :o I agree that it doesn't flow with the rest of the knife. Here is another pic.

The original plan was a recessed nut, flat with the surface of the pommel with a little engraved flower like on the pommel. I want to make a larger one with this particular handle style to Donate to Mission 22, probably at the beginning of next year, and that one will have a nut like that.

As far as engraving/carving, it is something I am trying to learn and get better at. But as I said before, feels like for now, I am mostly expending my repertory of swear words. ;)

Thanks again for the support and feedback guys.

The handle reminds me a bit of the lines of a sabre handle, which IMO ties in well with the beauty of a knife intended for a Marine.

Love it love it love it.

You never fail to amaze me, Patrice. I'd give anything for three percent of the creativity you display in everything you do.

Sorry guys, I was off-grid for a couple days. But I'm back. :D

Thanks BladeScout, that is exactly the inspiration for it.

Matthew, you are too kind my friend, :o

Thanks for the other views. Looking good:thumbup:

 I really like the handle on this one Patrice. The grooving on the grip looks clean, with a comfortable swell to it. I particularly like the transition from the grip to the pommel. Great concept, well executed. The engraving looks like it's on track... and I'm jealous. ;)

Little nitpicks: As others mentioned, the pommel nut looks out-of-place... and it could be the photo, but the blade grind seems a bit off. It looks like there's some wave/wash in the plunge, and the grind seems slightly thick for that size blade.

I had been watching this one on Instagram, and am stoked to see it finished. {high five}

Patrice, I really like the design- it's well balanced and unique. Your engraving is looking good, too! Killer piece, my friend!
