USMC inspired EDC

Thanks again guys, I repeat myself but your good words really mean a lot to me.

Erin, you are right on both counts.
First I left the knife a little thick on purpose. This is suppose to be an EDC and when I saw how my friend John treated his current EDC I figured a little more meat could not hurt. ;)
As far as the grind, some is because of the photo I imagine but it is far from perfect that is for sure. As I said before, I need to grind more blades and on a regular basis. If too much time passes between blades, I just loose muscle memory. I am hoping that regular grinding will improve my grinds. Well, that's the plan anyway, or maybe I just suck and that's as good as it'll get :o, we'll see.

I will give the knife to John Friday and try to get a picture to post here.

Thanks again for your feedback and support guys.

Hahaha... makes perfect sense. Based on my limited knowledge of your work, I figured that a TON of thought went into every detail. :D

I'm blown away by anyone who can get perfect plunges off of the grinder. Personally, I try to avoid them for the most part... but when I do a knife with plunges, I end up spending hours with my file guide and sandpaper glued to a block with a radiused edge. I'm intrigued with the idea of a horizontal radiused "plunge platen" (maybe water-cooled) à la Nathan the Machinist, but have yet to take the plunge. ;)

I'm keeping my eye on your Instagram waiting for a sneak-peek of your next project.

Erin, I am sorry, I missed your post and did not respond. :o
I also have a very hard time with the plunges at the grinder. I did build a platen, like Kyle Royer I think, but I need to spend more time getting used to it. But first impression is that it could make things a lot easier and cleaner especially for folks like me who don't grind a ton of knives. I hope you post your results when you do take the “plunge”.
Starting this autumn I will have a lot more shop time and if all goes well I am hoping to have a lot more projects to post on Instagram and on here of course, although some might be a little too “Outside the Box” for this forum. ;) I do appreciate your support my friend.

Now for the reason I checked this thread again, pics of my friend receiving the knife as promised.
As you can see, he was happy. Makes all the hard work worth it.

Thanks again for watching.

A worthy tribute and a beautiful knife. Thanks for the pictures- especially of your friend receiving it.

It's a fantastic community and good people Thanks Mitch

I like it, the engraving is just right, not to much and not to little. Very nice knife.

Bien fait! Love the knife and what you did with the engraving. I'm looking forward to seeing how your engraving grows.

Thanks once again for the good words guys. I like engraving a lot and would love to be able to apply my “out of the box” approach to it too. But of course I have to develop better basic skills first or it'll just look like crap.

Here is a pic of the sheath with a quick brass key I made to take it apart without marring the nut.

Thanks again for looking.
