Hi Everyone,
Has anyone dealt with this kind of situation before? I sold an out-of-production knife internationally and it has gone missing somewhere between USPS and the Russian Post. Just fell off the radar. I've contacted the PO about an investigation, but I don't have my hopes up. Also, I trust the buyer, so this isn't a scam issue.

I insured the package, but I originally acquired the knife in a trade on BFC so I don't have a receipt for the original purchase. Don't think the original trader is even active on BFC anymore .

Is there any other way to establish ownership and value for an insurance claim? I have some pictures of the knife I took when I sold it. I have also found some websites that list "retail" prices for the knife when it was in production. I have paypal receipts for the sale. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else I can do.

If anyone has dealt with this before and successfully filed a claim? I'd appreciate any advice .:o

If you have pictures, it may very well to pay BRL for a current value on the knife, he is well respected in the field and I do not think anyone could question his decision.

Thanks guys, I'll see how the investigation plays out, but in the meantime I will get all my documents in order.

Bladeandbarrel, it's really strange. I've shipped internationally before with no problems, but I guess there is a first time for everything.

So Praxis, you have to show proof of purchase or value when you file an insurance claim? Even though you paid for and have an insurance reciept? If this is so, the USPS has stooped to a new low.

Here's a link to the USPS official regulations for establishing value.

Also make sure you claim the cost of the postage if the package has gone completely missing.

I would recommend that anyone purchasing this insurance coverage read the regulations that describe the coverage and what you have to do if you have a claim. It is stated quite clearly that the coverage is limited by the actual value of the insured items.
