Had a knife disappear in transit to me back in August, and it's been a couple of months since the claim was filed by the seller with USPS under his insurance of the item. Can anyone tell me about how long this process usually takes, before payment is finally made by USPS? Although I've been trading via Bladeforums since 2000, I'm a newbie on claims.

Thanks!
Will

PO usually makes you wait a couple weeks to 30 days after filing the claim. Then after their "investigation" they can take up to 60 days to pay out. Do keep all your proof of payment/value paperwork handy as they do try to find any reason to deny a claim. I have gone through it twice. It takes time but does eventually pay. I hope the seller has been keeping you informed of what is happening. I found that stopping in at the PO where the claim was filed and checking up on the status can get you some info on when to expect things to happen.

yep, I had to go through it myself a couple of times. In my case the insurance was handled by one person once a month and they forgot to file it. Sooo, keep on their case, it's been long enough a visit to see what's going on is in order.

Thanks, Dave. The Seller has been in touch with his local post office, and I got an update from him this week. It's "in process" but no payment yet--I was just wondering if this is normal. Apparently it is.

I had one $800 claim that took close to 4 months to collect on, then a $95 claim was paid out in the PO about 15 minutes after I filled it.

They will postpone it as long as possible, just have the other person call.....everyday.

Any paper work with values, receipts, transaction records from paypal or bank ALWAYS help....especially if he refunded you already.

In case anyone is interested, I received my reimbursement check from the postal service today. Long wait, but at least I'm not out anything more than time.

Thanks again to all for the good advice,
Will
