I mailed a really nice knife to a good friend and great forums member. When he received it, someone cut open the box and took out the knife and replaced it with some newspaper like a smartass. When my friend went to the post office, the employees acted really dumb and like they really didn't care. This is the second time I've sent a package and the contents get lost. This really irritates me because claims take forever. It's rather obvious that some of the USPS employees aren't honest. I caution all of you to becareful and please Insure your packages. I hope this never happens to all of you

An almost identical situation happened where I live. However, the paper that was put in the box to replace the item weighed an ounce or so less than the knife. The postal inspectors were then able to determine exactly where the weight difference first appeared in the system, tracked it and bagged a now former employee.

Call the Inspectors ASAP!!!

I just had my first problem with them as well:mad:

I shipped out 2 Leatherman's & the package mysteriously disapeared. Then I had to wait for the 1 month to go by for them to conduct their "search".

Well, it wasn't all bad. I sold the 2 for a lower amount than what I insured it for & so I actually received a little kick back on it.

Still, those damn theiving bastards should have their handsd chopped off!
I bet you then the missing packages would stop!

Well, I had a interesting suprise in my mailbox on Saturday. It was a padded envelope with some merchandise I ordered and was mailed post marked
May 14,2003.It finally arrive almost a year later.
Well,I guess the positive was, this honestly was my only serious problem with USPS in all the years and hundreds of packages I have sent and received.Sorry you guy's have not had good experiences.I've heard bad stories about every carrier at one time or the other.I guess when you have such a big operation, thousands of employess, and millions of parcels, there is bound to be a problem periodically.Overall,I think all the different companies including USPS do a really incredible job of delivering packages.

US Postal is not my favorite carrier. However, our Postal Service is still a lot better than what passes in other countries. Still, my choice is Fedex Home Delivery. While it may take a bit longer, I like it because it tracks throughout the system, it automatically is insured for $100.00, and if you fill out the shipping document correctly (such as signature required), you don't often have problems with delivery. You still need to package the product properly.

I have sent swords and guns (all legally) worth in the thousands and I have yet to loose anything via FedEx. Of course, with bad packaging, I have had a few things arrive poking through the boxes. Also, nothing has arrived broken :D

A lot of the time if you have a lot of problems, it will be because of one particular employee near you, so it's worth complaining and getting problem tracked down. My old school had a LOT of problem with missing money, packages, etc. Kept reporting it, finally tracked it down to sorting/distro center in TUlsa, last I heard, think they had fired 2-3 people over the investigation, may have been more.

If you're sending anything over $300, USPS Registered Mail is about the best thing there is. If less than that, then either make sure you insure it, or use Fedex. Overall, USPS has a far lower package loss rate than either UPS or Fedex.
