[Rant Mode On]

My wife went into labor on Tueday morning and delievered a awesome son to me, and for that I am truely happy :) I stayed the night in the hospital with them and went home the next day to clean up, grab some things we needed and do a quick e-mail check. What did I find when I got home?? 4 packages sitting on the front porch soaking wet!! (I live in a downstairs apartment, with a small porch in front of building) It had been raining for a couple of days straight on and off, So why would you leave packages outside in the rain??? Not to mention I requested that no packages be left due to some shady people in the complex. So I take the 4 packages inside, 2 of which the contents were damaged from the water. I am not entirely pissed at this point, then I get a phone call yesterday from my mother asking if I recieved her package. After I tell her I didn't recieve it I get a confirmation number from her and guess what?? It was delivered that same day, but NO PACKAGE!! I rushed to the post office and they said due to the fact in wasn't inssured, they can't do anything, they didn't even address the fact the packages were left in the rain or that they were left at all after me telling them to leave a slip and I will pick any and all packages up. Now my wife and I can live without the things my mom sent,(Baby blankets, baby toys, and things of that nature), But my mom barely has two nickles to rub together and the fact that she might be doing without to provide a gift fro her grandson makes me want to choke this freaking Mail Man. I have already checked the dumpster in our part of the apartment complex for the box,(luckly it was almost low, near empty and the box was very large) and I am keeping an eye out. Believe me if I find out who stole this, I am going to make them remember the day they crossed us!!

Sorry I am extremely mad and had to get if off of my chest, thanks for listening.

It doesn't seem to be possible to get the message through to either USPS or UPS that you don't want packages left on your porch -- or that you do, either. They're just not organized to receive and store and distribute that information. As far as I can tell they don't even try. Sometimes they leave it on your porch to get rained on and stolen, sometimes they leave a note telling you to pick it up during hours you can't, and whatever mysterious criteria they use to decide which to do, your wishes are not among them. A lot of are pretty mad about that, but there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it.

I've tried leaving a note on my door when I'm expecting something but that doesn't work either. When I ask them why they didn't do as the note asked them to they say "it's not our policy."

...on the birth of your son! How very cool! Sorry to hear about your mom's gift package getting ripped off because of the stupidity of the USPS though. I hope you do get the satisfaction of finding the person responsible for such a low-life deed.

Give my best to the new mom. You're a lucky man, indeed.

congratulations on your son!!!

Im sorry you had this happen to you, it seems as time goes on the usps gets worse. I live in apt also and have had packages damaged before. It seems that different post offices, and postman have done things at "their own" descretion. :(

Congrats BG!!! you are lucky dude, just think what would have happened if the USPS delivered your son. You would of had to pick him up in Brooklyn:eek:

LMAO, No sh-t. Well guys thanks very much for all the congrats, Unfortunatly the little guy was only home for one day. He is back in the hospital now and was supposed to get released today, but its looking like tomorrow now. His Bili-Rubin level was too high and for a few hours it almost looked like he was going to get a total blood exchange, but it came down and unfortunaly its not low enough yet to release him :(

I will be sure to tell him that all of his friends on the blade forums are pulling for him :)

Thanks Again guys

Congratulations on the new son!

I just can not become comfortable shipping with the
Postal Service. My next door neighbor retired from there
and I got a lot of first hand info on that place. I have
always had good luck with UPS and will continue to use them
unless customer prefers otherwise. Then I can say "told
you so".

My grip with most of the shipping companies is that if they are in a rush, they don't even bother to knock sometimes! There have been times when I'm sitting in my living room, knowing that the guy is coming with a package that I don't want to miss, and at some point I'll open the door and it'll just be sitting there on the stoop. Sneaky bastards.

This is UNREAL!! Now I sent to large packages thru UPS, one to California and one to Ohio. They delivered them both to the California Address!!! So now I have to get the guy in California to be there for the UPS guy (Not sure this can be done yet) have UPS pick it up there and deliver it to Ohio were it was supposed to go. Guess what?? They plan to charge me $29 to pick it up. Even though I have my reciept with the correct addresses and the package was properly addressed. Screw this!  NO WAY!!!! I am heading over to UPS to talk to someone in person tomorrow, if anything, they should charge me money!!

Possible solution - get a P.O. Box. They'll just leave a slip in your box if the package doesn't fit, and you can go claim it at the counter. A little more reliable when no one's available to claim deliveries (usually when most people are working).

BadGuy . . . your experience is typical of UPS service in northeast Tennessee. Sorry to see its spreading to other areas, but not really unexpected. Here, the UPS driver's attitude has deteriorated to the point that I do business with them only when absolutely necessary . . . and then with considerable misgiving.

I have much better luck with USPS and often pay Fedex higher rates because their performance justifies their price.

Same kind of problems in Colorado. They only deliver at inconvenient times, and if you are not home they want you to pick up the package 12 miles away at their distribution center. Miss it by a day and the package goes back to the sender. I have never had a problem with USPS.
