I have been shipping quiet a few knives international lately, and have been pleasantly surprised by USPS allowing First Class international postage printing online, as well as Delivery Confirmation to several countries including (but not limited to) UK, Australia, Canada, NZ, France, Germany, Estonia (full list here: http://pe.usps.com/text/imm/immc2_022.htm). DC is free if postage is printed online. This eliminates trips to the post office, as you can print postage online (including customs forms as a part of that process) and just drop the package in the blue box as you'd do for any domestic package.

Thought folks will find it informative, as I've seen quite a few international shipping refusals because of the physical PO visit and customs forms.

It is also now possible to use online tracking through the USPS website to track incoming mail that has been shipped from Germany to the USA using German Post Registered Airmail service. You just enter the German Post tracking number on the USPS website and it tells you where the package is. Only thing, it is NOT always updated right away so it may show the package in one place longer than it is but so far, it has proven very reliable regarding delivery and whether or not it is waiting at your local Post office for you.

Thanks Choobak & Kevin,
Another option I have been using is printing my labels for USPS for Domestic & International through Paypal for quite awhile. You can save a small percentage over the cost of getting it posted at the post office as well

Forgot to mention: You can also use the tracking service of the Canadian Post to track shipments coming to Canada from Germany if they were shipped through German Post. Looks like the post offices are finally putting the "global" into their individual systems!

Since I ship a lot of goods to the USA and Canada it is really great that customers can now track their shipments pretty much the whole way over without having to use the MUCH more expensive services of DHL, UPS or FedEx.

I've shipped package from slovakia and it was trackable on usps site once it arrived to usa.

I have used USPSS services but it is not consistent all the time. Have faced many problems regarding on time delivery of shipments. And it cost me losing clients just due to not on time delivery. Now a day’s time is a money, especially in Small Medium Enterprises (SME's). I have my own small trading business in North Carolina. It was quite difficult for me to go to post office daily which is about 25 kilometers far away from my office to collect postage stamps. Then one of my client suggested me http://www.howtoprintpostage.com . According to his opinions, if you want on time delivery of your consignments than online postage services will help you in saving your time and money off-course. Because now days are gone when people use to go market to purchase things they want to. With the revolution in Internet industry, now you can get your things and work done just from one Click.

Absolutely. To add, stamps.com is good for businesses, but for individual uses, you can directly print from paypal, or usps.com. Note usps.com does not allow First Class postage printing, while stamps.com and paypal do allow that.
