Yesterday, I sent a knife off to someone using a USPS Priority small flat rate box. I was a bit shocked when they said it was $10.40 out of the gate. That's about $1 more than I was expecting. Apparently, the USPS has implemented a "Holiday Shipping Rate Increase" effective from Sunday, Oct. 2 to Sunday, Jan. 22. I'm certain the price increase will have no impact on the usual holiday BS about not being able to stick to promised delivery timelines because of increased workloads, blah blah blah.

Just thought folks would like to know rather than get surprised at the PO.

The gas “charge” that the PO tacks onto shipping cost here in Canada went up $4-ish permanently. So that’s a bummer too.

Cripes, just when I found out there was a different charge at the automated shipping vs the actual teller, vs the former paypal usps shipping. bunch of money grubbing !@#$$@#%

Yeah, all of the shipping companies have a peak season rate increase./surcharge. Certainly is no fun - and man that surcharge has been starting earlier and earlier lately...

Just like my neighbors' decorations, some of which have had Halloween stuff up almost a month, and I saw a Christmas tree in a window last night!

It does seem companies are pushing Christmas sales earlier and earlier, so maybe it's fair. This "early prime day" or whatever they're calling it next week is a clear early Christmas sale considering they sent out toy magazines with an included holiday present list last week. OTOH, if the period is longer, than the per-day volume should be lower, so there's less justification for a surcharge.

I have had a check in the mail to a maker here for about 2 weeks. Also 2 claims with usps insurance over the last couple years. Not a great experience lately

It won’t necessarily work for the flat rate, but if you ship a lot might try PirateShip. They show you various discounted rates between USPS and UPS; and allow printing off shipping label.
