I was doing some work for Railsplitter Railsplitter , and had let due dates slip a bit due to my ongoing battle with MRSA, cancer, etc., and the required hospitalizations including a stint in isolation.

When I ship stuff out via USPS, I put a note in our mailbox to come down to the house and pick up packs. My postal delivery person and I have worked out this system as the safest and most expedient. I had put a note in the box yesterday to come down to the house; I thought I would have the pack ready. Of course, it's impossible to know exact times; as luck would have it, when he came down to the house, I was about 30 minutes from being done.

I told the mailman that I wasn't ready, and that I wouldn't be for 30 minutes. He said that he would stop back in 40 minutes. In 40 minutes, as I'm slapping the shipping label on the box, he pulls up. The package is picked up and on its way.

I hardly ever find this kind of service in today's business world; however, it is needed. I was able to save some time in getting product delivered. This helps out my customer. Ultimately, everybody wins: i know that I will pick USPS over UPS.

Thanks for getting my knives shipped out, Bob. Very much appreciated.

We don't always have the same mail carrier in our neighborhood but when it's our regular guy he is very cooperative. He usually delivers to my house around 12:30 and I usually get home from work about 1:50. Sometimes I'll chase him down on my lunch break at 10:30 and get my package from him if it's something that I'm really excited about getting.

Most postal carriers would probably be rather irritated by that. I mean really, can't I wait another three hours?!:D But he doesn't mind at all.

My experience and method is exactly the same as yours: Note in box, come to house, please.

My personable mailman is on a first-name basis with my family, and he gets a tip at Christmas, and lemonade in the Summer.

USPS = FTW!

y'all got good folks at your areas. I don't. wish I did though......

My carrier on Thursday is awful. I get a package that shows delivered at 1:21pm. By 1:23, it shows as undeliverable until it shows up the next day. Any package that is supposed to arrive on Thursday ALWAYS has a delivery issue, every time. I think the guy just forgets to put it in the box and doesn't realize it until his next stop 2 blocks away. At that point, it appears that he can't be bothered to come back and leaves it for my regular carrier to deliver.

My carrier during the rest of the week always tries to bring my packages to the door before letting them sit in my mailbox all afternoon.
He's a really good guy. I was on my way back home from a road trip out of the state last August and we crossed paths out of town. Around 200 miles from home, I stopped at a restaurant to grab a bite and this guy walks up behind me and says "14911". Yep, that's me.
He pulled up a chair and we had a nice lunch together. He's a really good guy and I need to do something nice for him and his lady this year.

I have been pleased with my USPS people. One thing they mentioned to me is that when a package is marked at a certain location, it isn't necessarily there or there yet. Apparently the sort centers have the coding equipment to mark them for whatever post office a package is going to.

AKRON OH DISTRIBUTION CENTER

I live about 35 miles from Akron, and the Akron center does not serve my area. Should I expect delivery by 3.5 hours ago?

It’s good to hear about folks looking after one another.

I’ve had good, average, and bad carriers over the years.

Another knife reported by USPS Tracking as delivered in the am - when we NEVER get mail. Showed up the next day. Why? THEORY: Scans everything as he loads the truck and occasionally misses items when delivering hours later.

Today, one package was in the roadside ditch in the water. Thanks to a very careful seller it was in a zip-lok bag inside the box. The seller "gets" it.

At home and office my regular mail ladies, Jo and the body builder, need to get her name, are great everything shows when it’s suppose to . The tracking has been really accurate, one time it said delivered and I had just been at box, thought no way, but box and knife were sitting there. The temps are not so great.... but talked with one and told he was doing my route on top of his normal route so cutting a little slack. Some of you have really bad ones!

Amazon delivery people, different story they just throw things in the general direction and take off. Thier tracking is terrible and drivers have “stories” like “left with reception”, twice, it’s a one person office! Or the box is torn to hell, looks like it was kicked all the way.

My regular carrier is great. He gets a gift at Christmas. The fill ins are a problem.

Happy to hear your positive experience, and I'm in the same boat - USPS has been the best shipping option for me in terms of value, and I continue to ship with them as much as possible.

Received three parcels today - from my neighbor. They were placed inside his storm door. Must have a sub. Regular guy dumps them on driveway.
