Wasn't sure where to put this. I ordered a package (not a knife) that was shipped in its bare product packaging for whatever reason. When I received it, USPS had written directly on it, about a 5x5" area, smack on the front of the box. (it's not really relevant but because I know someone is going to ask, they wrote what looks like delivery notes because they failed to deliver it on the expected day)

This was supposed to be a gift, what the f. Isn't that some sort of vandalism or damage of property? I know the item itself is good, but that's not the point at all. At this point I'm thinking I should just move somewhere that has a better local post office...

The way I see it, is since the sender didn't care to package said product properly it is their fault. The packaged item is your property and the package containing your item is USPS property. If USPS needs to write on the packaging to ensure your item makes it to its destination, then that is their right to do so.

I don't feel that it is the responsibility of the USPS to repackage your property, it should be the senders. Either ask the sender for a replacement that is packaged properly, or move on with "vandalized" merchandise:rolleyes:

I understand your frustration but this is the fault of the sender not the postal service. If the packaging is part of the "product" then it should be wrapped, bagged or boxed for delivery. Notes and an address are part of the delivery process.
Why is it the sender's fault that the package was written on? Why is USPS writing on people's packages? I have had misdelivered mail before and it has never been written on. It isn't even coherent, it reads like someone with an IQ of 60 talking to themselves as to why they can't locate my front door. I would totally fault the sender if the package was otherwise damaged, but it's not.

Yeah, I know, I'm mostly just frustrated. It being a gift makes it sting more too, though the recipient won't be too perturbed. I've had nothing but problem after problem with these guys.

Also, regarding you package not coming on time, just remember that there are much bigger issues happening in the US right now. I don't know what you had shipped, but there are many thing with high priority right now, and also good reasons for delay. Patience is a virtue...

It has been my experience that any package not delivered the first time will have a note of some description ie "Carded 6/9" to indicate that they left the collection card on 6 Sept. One of many.

I agree with the other guys, the person that mailed it should've boxed it up to avoid anything like that happening. I've seen where some folks have mailed CRKs like that, just slapped a label on the CRK box and put it in the mail. That's just not an acceptable way to mail things IMO.

Senders problem. Usps can write on packages. Packaging gets damaged, taped on, slid in dirty floors and tables etc. Should have been packaged to withstand normal delivery and handling stuff, which would have been fine for writing on also.

How is USPS supposed to know that it's a gift and the receiver would prefer to keep the box pristine? For all they know it's just a random assortment of items packed into a box the shipper had lying around, which they delivered intact.

Would you care to share what it was and where it shipped from?

Curious to how big the box was and if it was a private seller or a business.

Is the product box rated as a shippable box? I've bought a few things where this was the case.

I'd assume the seller slapped the shipping label and packing slip/invoice directly to the box? In my experience, it's nigh on impossible to remove these without marring the box.

I get all my deliveries sent to my PO Box. Every package is written on in black permanent ink with the date received/delivered and PO Box number.

I'm with everyone else. The post service isn't at fault. It's the seller who cheaped out by not using a dedicated shipping box.

Great point Rey!!
We're there shipping labels stuck on it??
I think the sender should've boxed it also. Never received anything shipped in its own box or package.
I also think every package I have received has been written on by the PO.

Yes but it was a heavy duty shipping label, I find them easy to get off they don't tear/fall apart as easily. This one came off no problem with a little finesse.

Seems writing on packages is par for the course for everyone here, however I've never had a package written on by the USPS. The jerkarse who did it used a ballpoint pen and lots of pressure too, it would've been better if they used permanent marker because I could've washed it off (irony).

No offense, but you can not be serious enough to let something like this steal your joy?
Wow. Usps has no idea or are they responsible for your shipper to ship in the product box. Carriers write on the box all the time .....in the end that is for your benefit.
Take a deep breath.

Plain and simple, you are a buyer who feels that you are entitled to something... Let's make sure that all of the respectable sellers here on BF take note of your attitude so that we can eliminate any future headache caused by you.
