This one was very fun to make. My customer is still in the US Navy and was on the USS Parche submarine until it was decomissioned and scraped. All interested crew recieved a piece of it. The piece Greg got was about 1 1/2" thick and was half welds but I was able to forge some of it out and put some 1084 high carbon steel sandwiched in between. Here is the result with nickel and stag.

Bruce, When are you going to use some of that sea hare stag you've been holding onto? Good looking knife! I think knives that have a built in story add so much more to it.

Great Job Bruce! Too cool a concept too, very well done. Any idea what the steel was from the sub?

I like the idea and the implementation

sooooooo
does that one fire torpedoes? :D

Seriously nice work!

Very cool Bruce! What are the spacers? Looks like leather?
Matt

Hi Matt, The spacers are just simple thin leather with super glue soaked in. They have some nice color, I dont know why we dont use them on more knives.

Very Cool. WIsh I had some pieces of the commands I served at. It will be a fine commemorative knifei

Super cool. I''m not sure about the older subs, but the steel used on the pressure hulls of the newer ones is supposed to be a pretty exotic maraging(?) steel. I suspect that what you have there is some of the more standard stuff from the outer hull or the interior. Did it glow in the dark?? lol According to Google, the Parche was actually a Stugeon class boat modified to be an intelligence gathering/"salvage" sub by adding a 100 foot section to the hull like they did with one of the three Seawolf class boat, the Jimmy Carter, I think
