OK guys. I spoke with Derek this afternoon (he is still "Internet Impaired") and brought up the possibility of getting a "Usual Suspect" marked knife.

Yes, it is possible to get a run of knives with a special laser engraving on them . . . if there is enough interest. We're talking fifteen or twenty pieces needed to get the project off the ground.

Unfortunately, I did not inquire as to the additional cost of the special marking. ("Single Guy Syndrome")

Several things need to come together to make it happen:

1. Enough people that will order knives

2. We need to decide which knife we want to make the "US" knife. Current models only (sorry, no huge Commanders

)

3. We need to decide on what exactly should be on the special marking.

What do ya'll think? Maybe this would be a "First Annual Emerson Forums Knife".

My answers:

1. I'm in for at least one. Two if need be to get the project off the ground.

2. Just to be consistent, I vote Commander.

I could like with a waved CQC7B (Plain edged?) to help keep the costs down for folks.

3. How about:

Ewwww, maybe serialized?

I would take 1 or 2 if it would help get this going...
Commander defenitly, serialized yes and maybe a skull clip, Green T blade??

John:

I like the idea. Personally, I like the smaller blades and would like to see a knife like the "CommanderAir" be designated for the 1st model. That way it could be carried where ever us Usual Suspects go. With the large number of cries for thicker liners on the Commander, possibly there may be a sort of change in the wind by the Company which would make the newer Commander more desirable or as highly sought after as the elusive 98's.

I appreciate the efforts being put forth by lots of Emerson fans on the forum and it's refreshing to see that obviously wishes of ours are being discussed and considered by probably Ernie himself.

It's interesting that back in 1990 Ernie said that "I acknowledge that knifemaking is a collaborative art. and that I can't say enough about the knifemaking fraternity and all the help every maker has been whenever asked"

I am confident that with the feedback from the forum members that better and greater things are yet to come.

Yes John,
Two 'Usual Suspects-Emerson Forums' Commanders with serial #. Any chance for '98 version with thick scales?
Best wishes,
Oliver

how about something new like the mini commander or the mini cqc 7 or if possible one of the special run knives.

dont really matter im in for at least one
jon

I'm good for one. First choice would be a mini-Commander, however, one powerful request whatever it is...gotta have a wave. Good work amigos.

i am in for two...whatever we decide....but i prefer a mini commander with plain edge (satin or tennifer) and the logo/slogan john suggested with skull clip and ti bolsters wouldn't be bad....feverdoc

I like Tattoo's Idea. Since sooo many of the folks that post on this forum are the same folks that are (probably)going to be the folks that purchase Production/Custom, and since the Production/Custom Shop is going to be up and running soon (soon being a relative term), maybe we could get the first production/custom run. Whatever the knife (I'd love a customized Command Air) it would be sharp with bolsters and a satin finish. Of course, there is the price to consider, aren't the production/customs going to be a little more expensive? I'd spend the extra money, but how about you guys? Would you guys want to spend the extra money? If we agree, maybe John Holister can work that magic as the spokesman for us!!!

A Usual Suspect knife would be great. My vote for a CommandAIR with satin finish, double bevel and opening hole instead of a thumb wheel. Ti bolsters would be nice, green or black g-10 handles and really thick ti liners. I would buy two of these if they become reality.

Just spent the last four hours in the chat room.

Saw damn near everyone there tonight.

It looks torn between the Commander and the Mini Commander, with the majority going to the Mini.

Most wanted something "a little more", some thing Unusual for our first "Usual" knife. A collector of a knife.

Most folks came to the following conclusion:

Mini Commander, hopefully a real Satin (uncoated blade) blade, plain edge, hopefully a serial number and the following inscription:

Possible bolstered, we have to see if that's feasible.

(I feel obligated to mention that Eric wants a Skull clip and Crushproof box)

I will contact Derek on Monday to see if the described knife would be possible.

Again, I would like to see a yearly special knife for the Emerson collectors on the forum.

Who would be in for such an offering?

John,

Count me in, and thanks for making these things happen (I'm sure it takes time from your schedule).

Chuck

Everything but the markings is in the air right this second, but I'm going to try and make it work.

Who else would be in?

I'm in definetely for one if we need to I'll squeeze in another order for two.

Either the mini-Commander or Commander Usual Suspect knife i would love to see in satin plain edge, the original satin finish they had would also kick some serious butt.

Serial number would be a nice touch, but to me it wouldn't make me want to buy it more or not want to buy it. I'd buy it anyways

The one thing i would really like to see is it be different in some way other than just the special marking. Possibly a different color liner or a carbon fiber scale. I know it would bring the price up but to be different is to be unique.

BOLSTERs would definetely be unique and would perk me up big time.

So is the TUSK (The Usual Suspect Knife) name out of the running?

Thanks

I've really missed out on the beginnings of this discussions haven't I ? That's night shifts for you !

My vote is for the Mini-Commander size, and I'm happy to go along with what has been discussed so far as far as the specs. of the knife are concerned.

As far as making this a yearly event, well that sounds fine to me. The more Emersons, the better !

Count me in !
