Finally got mine today-I figured I'd see my postman out wearing it on Friday night and I'd have to cut him! Just kidding. The timing could not be more perfect-I'll wear it tonight to my Civitan Club meeting where I am meeting everyone for the first time and trying to get involved in the community.
They said coat and tie, but isn't a rare custom just as classy?
thanks again, great job!
DWE

not to be a complete dumbass or anything, but what does "ssds" stand for?
gotta be able to explain it properly for the Civitan meeting, casual day at work, church, weddings, etc...
DWE

In the navy we called: "Ship Self Defense System"...

or acording to Navy's diving manual: "Surface-Supplied Diving System"...

I don't know why it's not called SRT or Sentry Removal Tool

Not a dumbass question at all. I had read about it somewhere and forgotten and then Derek reminded me during an impromptu pop quiz.

SSDS stand for:

SEAL Sudden Death Syndrome

Nice ring to it, don't you think?

Well, that's not too bad-at least it is not BABY Seal Sudden Death Syndrome! Then again, I guess it's more humane than clubbing them!
Or am I talking about something completely different?!
cheers,

In keeping with the fine military tradition of bewildering acronyms the US Navy, who in my opinion has penned some of the most bewildering of all, came up with one of my favorites.

During the cold war years and particularly the 1960's the Navy developed the use of dolphins and seals (animal not personnel) in underwater object location and recovery. This program was an active part of EOD Mobile Units until I believe the very early 1990's.
There was however, a much shorter lived and darker side to this program. Dolphins were trained to locate divers underwater. These dolphins could identify divers as either friend or foe and in theory could be employed much like a watch dog in harbors. Upon loacting an enemy diver they would attack with the use of a single shot, impact triggered .45 cal weapon mounted on their nose. Upon ramming the diver the bullet would be fired killing the diver.

The program was appropriately called SNP: Swimmer Nulification Program.

Whether this program ever evolved past development and actually became an active part of our defenses is beyond my scope of knowledge.

Cool huh?

Yeah, pretty cool, but, have you ever gotten bit by your own dog? I would sure hate to be 'lost in training' because some darn dolphin screwed up!

I guess the fact that I am at the complete opposite side of the country is why I am still waiting for my shiret. I am jealous of all you that have them!

that about the use of dolphins as watchdogs is hilarious! Imagine if one comes up to the trainer for a fish treat, would the dolphin have to "present arms" or "clear the chamber" first?
Let one loose in sea world with some catastrophic results I would bet!
why can't we do the same with rats in the city? the possibilities are endless!
OK-way of topic here.

For Suspect Arkhamdrifter:

I attemped to e-mail you directly, but it was kicked back as undeliverable.

So I'll try making contact via this thread.

Are there any shirts left for purchase? If so, please forward or post information.

Thanks for your fine effort,
Seth

Seth,
Yes. Try e-mailing me again. It should be straightened out now.

Hey Arkhamdrifter,
Can a non-suspect get one of those t-shirts? I have a couple production Emersons but don't have the money for any customs. Also I don't have any training in sentry disembowelment, but would like to. I am not knocking the guys that do that because that is what keeps us from speaking Chinese and calling each other comrade. Thanks
Reed

A single shot .45 cal on the NOSE? Ouch... that recoil must be a bitch on the face.

I think it got officially scrapped because the tree huggers didn't want us "hurting" the animals.

I am running dangerously low on the initial run of 2001 Shirts. I have a few L, XL left.

To those Usual Suspects who have recently sent me a check or MO you can rest assured, your shirt is already considered sold and has been put aside.
