Utilikilt on the way...

O.K. help an ignorant dumbass(me):o out, and explain what a utilikilt is exactly. I have seen kilts before, but never heard the term utilikilt.
Maybe a pic? But shave your legs first:D

A Utilikilt is a modernized version of a kilt. Instead of being a ton of dryclean only tartan, they're more of a canvas material. They also have BIG pockets depending on which style you get and they're very inexpensive compared to the standard traditional kilts. Check out their website. Utilikilt

I live in shorts year round, unless I'm shoveling snow in a blizzard, so the kilt is my re-enacting answer to shorts. We re-enact in several different groups. I don't like pants, leggings and especially those darn wool trousers in Civil War re-enacting. I've worn my Wallace Tartan kilt in the SCA, Civil War, French and Indian and Ren Faire for many years, though it's getting threadbare and needs replacement.
I have a hiking kilt my grandmother made way back when.
I've chafed on hikes and found that duct taping my chafed parts worked really well.
I've mostly gone Regimental , BUT, believe me- you only fall asleep on the beach once! Sandflys and all kinds of things teach you good...
Also, if you get a good rash on a long hike I recommend Carmex...it burns at first, but that passes and then your good to go.
A Utilikilt is definitely on my short list.

Pretty funny video on that site. Not for me though, I don't think the kilt goes down long enough to keep me covered:p:D
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Just have em make one that goes to your ankles, then when someone asks why your wearin' such a long kilt?, you say, in your best Scottish brough, "I hafta be wearin' a looong kilt as me Lochness monsters a draggin'"...
: )

LMAO greenwoods!
But I misunderstood my wife. She said I was a BIG D#%K, I thought she said I had one.:(
I guess I'll borrow one of her mini skirts:eek:

For those who wear kilts around the place, don't you get sick of the stupid looks that people constantly give to those wearing unusual or foreign clothing? I occasionally wear an Afghan pakul (mujahideen style) around town, but for the most part people look at me like I'm on crack or something.

Next time you wear that, just make sure you strap a 15" Ang Khola to your hip.
Those looks will stop fast!

My boss talked me into going home and getting it at lunch and wearing it at the shop for a little while.

The RD9 on my side hindered said looks. ;)

i get funny looks for walking around barefoot...a kilt can't be much worse than that. i almost always get funny looks for something or other...it doesn't bother me much.

sometimes its even fun to mess with people...

I have a sportkilt that I wear once in a while to work. Comfy as hell, I would reccomend them pretty quick. Am also planning to look into stillwater kilts.

The Utillikilt really doesn't do it for me but I hear they're pretty slick.
I have a bud in Colorado who has switched to kilts 24/7 and he's a fan of stillwater kilts so that's a pretty solid reccomendation for me.

Wear one and have fun.

Well, my Utilikilt is on the way. I got the Mocker model in grey. I'm a little worried that it'll be too dressy for my intended use but they didn't have any of the originals in my size and the Workman's was a little too pricey for me right now. I'll dig this thread up again and let you know what I think after I wear it for a few days.

Big fan of the kilt here- I have my band kilt for http://tpandd.exis.net/ We wear the Ancient MacArthur tartan & it's a heavy booger- keeps your wedding tackle nice & toasty in the cold, but it's awful doing the July 4th parade carrying a bass drum...
I also have 2 casual kilts- both solid canvas (Amerikilt- not so wild about it, and another that's a one-off custom). I've worn the Utilikilts and they rock. (Pockets are good- otherwise you'll need a sporran for keys, wallet, etc.) I'll probably score one of those when my cash is right again. Did a hike weekend w/ a couple of friends a month or so ago & we're planning another- this one in kilts.
