UZI ~ Defender

Hey Gonzo,

Most of the knives with gun company names are licensed to low end knife makers, who want to make a quick buck off of the gun maker’s reputation. The exceptions are Remington (most made by Camillus) and Browning (most made by Moki in Japan) who market there own line of knives.

SMKW often has some incredible close out deals (such as the Spyderco Navigators), but they also sell a lot of junk knives. I have never really had a problem with them; the one time I returned something, I had no hassles from their customer service.

Since you are looking for a good sized, well made knife, you might want to consider the Spyderco Endura Light weight which has a premium blade steel (VG10) and can be had for $50 or less.

First, i hope you folks don't mind the updates. I'd like to follow through with this till the end, whatever resolution comes of it.
Second, thanks to those who've followed along, i appreciate the replies and thoughts.

Here is where i'm at right now. I still have the knife.
Frank K. is right, while my initial evaluation may have been harsh and out of some bitterness, the quality of the UZI knife is so lacking, that i feel anyone who purchases it is getting raked over the coals.

In my (admittedly limited) knowledge of knives,
I could not see *anyone*, even a knifeknut, finding more than a $20 value in this knife. In fact, it feels like a $3.99 special, but given the UZI "endorsement" and aluminum/plastic case and all, you would find a markup to $20 somewhat warranted.
In my case, having paid $50.00 i feel sick about this purchase. Not in a buyer's remorse sense in any way, but in that i expected so much more out of my first somewhat expensive purchase. I own a CKRT, a Kershaw, a Gerber, and while all were less than half the price of this UZI, they are far, FAR superior in every way possible. The Uzi sits in it's box almost an embarrasment to me, i spent time learning about knives here, only to be made a fool of. A suitable paperweight, this knife does not make.

This has set in. It's the reality of the situation. Once i calmed down to actually present a rational overall evaluation, i decided to take advice given here, and i sent a lengthy email to SMKW detailing my displeasure of both product, and more importantly service, on Wednesday at 10:00 am.

Wednesday passed, Thursday passed, I've grown a bit peeved...
Today (Friday) i awoke and found a reply.

This is a very nice, albeit slow, reply. I will be patient and await further correspondence from SMKW. It seems to me they are concerned, yet i'm unclear in how the changing of their website's descriptions after my order, is somehow affected by the manufacturer. Regardless, i felt my concerns were addressed and respectfully.

This is where it remains, till further update.

Hey Gonzo,

Instead of waiting for emails, you could call their customer service (800 327- 5871).

For whatever its worth, I have found the best way of dealing with a company’s customer service is to tell them how I would like the problem resolved. For instance, if I wanted to send the item back for a full refund, that’s what I would ask for. Or maybe I would ask for an exchange for something else of equal value, if that’s what I wanted. Good luck – and keep us posted.

I agree with Frank, it is best to call. They have always been helpful and let me return unwanted items with no questions asked.

That's because you guys don't know me :D
With email, i can take some time to carefully word my statements. On the phone, emotions tend to win out over common sense sometimes. I figured i'd take this approach and see where it leads. I'll phone if i have to, but i usually have favorable outcomes through writing without resorting to telephoning supervisors :D

Sorry to hear about the unwanted knife.I think they will fix you up.

Thank you Kennieyk :)

I deal with problem computer components and manufacturers/resellers damn near constantly, and if i recall correctly i've ironed out every instance, the need to escalate to telephones is quite rare.

This matter gets under my skin so much mainly because the item's description changed. I'd like to assure SMKW never pulls this sort of action on myself, or the rest of you guys, ever again. Perhaps it was human error... on the same product line... two times... both changed at once.. while orders were pending on said misrepresented items.

Let me stress that if it was just shoddy product, or bad purchase, this would be another story. They make it easy enough to return something, but dammit... if i got what was advertised i would be happy and returning it would not be a thought. To find the ad changed after the fact is like salt in the wound.
