Looking at some vacation destinations. Mainly interested in fishing, being on the water or in the mountains. I am very interested in history, museums, good seafood and regional foods, and basically just having a good time. I've compiled a list of places I want to visit. I plan on visiting these areas within the next 15 years, so I'm not in a rush. Don't have to stay in the city, just in the general area. Great views are a must. Bars and nightlife are good, but I would like to spend money on other things than getting plastered. I generally don't like big crowds, and would like to know what I should check out on this list.

Go to Italy and visit The Cinque Terre, I'm planning on going back next summer to celebrate my 40th birthday.

You want great views? The North Shore of Kuai cannot be beat.

Something missing from your list; Everyone should visit Paris, the Art, culture, food, everyting. I'll live there one day.

You like fishing and you don't like crowds?

Right here in Oz, the Snowy Mountains. you could spend the entire day up there and not see another person. Some of the best trout fishing to be found anywhere.

Easy.

You have New York on your list and don't have Niagara Falls there? Not so much for the fishing, but it's one of the most imprssive sights you'll ever see. My grandmother lived about 30-40 miles from the falls, so I got to see almost every summer growing up. It wasn't until I saw them as an adult that I appreciated the beauty and power there.

One place every one on the planet should visit at least once in their life. (plus, you can fish on Lake Erie I'm pretty sure)

Come visit me here in New Brunswick. If I survive the fundy trail I'll take you someday. You can carry my extra gear.HEHEHE :D

A few suggestions:

Cabo San Lucas: great fishing, great nite life. Spectacular scenery. One place I must get back to.

Montauk, Long Island, NY: Great fishing, some nite life, alot to do. The very rich Hamptons are just a few miles away, with lots of nite life. Beautiful beaches!

Newport, Rhode Island & Block Island: Fish, party, eat. It's ll right there. Spectacular in July.

Atlantic City, NJ: I'd skip it. Unless you have to have Casinos this place sucks!
I lived in Jersey all my life and the few times I went to AC I couldn't leave fast enough.

Have fun, looks like you have a good plan.

I forgot to include Australia and New Zealand! Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

BTW, this list is for the next 50 odd years I spend on this earth(I hope at least the next 30 odd years!)

Go camping in Crater Lake, Oregon or at Canon Beach, Oregon. I promise you will not regret it. Flyfishing on the MacKenzie river outside of Eugene is great. If you have some time, check out the 40 or so strip clubs in Portland that are all within 25 minutes of each other. That alone is worth the trip out there.

Wilmington,my hometown, is a moderately large town with many attractions. Fresh water & deep-sea fishing,Civil war fort[last stronghold of the Confederacy ] ,the USS North Carolina, good beaches & Southern cooking at it's best. Barbecue to kill for !

The Outer Banks & Nags Head are abour 5 or 6 hours away up US highway 17 that is 4 laned virtually the entire distance.

Myrtle Beach is about an hour South on 17 & there are ,I believe 60 or 70 golf courses in the area, Charleston is probably 2 hours further South. Time permitting, you could start at one end & work your way on down.

If interested ,email me & I can give you some local color . I have a 24/7 phone system.

Wherever you go, have a safe , :) happy time.

Madison River in SW Montana around Ennis.Still pretty good fishin.

Lots of fishing to be had here in Minnesota, but you would be killed and eaten at sunset by the mosquitos (they havent been bad this year, actually). In minnesota, you cant throw a rock without hitting a lake. :D

I am not sure if there are any fish in there, but Lake Powell on the Utah/Arizona border is very scenic and beautiful- Houseboat vacation destination.

Both places can offer solitude.

I havent been overseas, but I think that would be a more "exotic" destination- I hear the fishing is great in Iran right now ;)
Really, though, you can find endless nice places to go. You have a huge list of possibilities already, I just thought I would chime in with a couple not on your list.

I have twice vacationed in Lake Tahoe, Ca/Nv in the summer. The temps are mild....hi 70's to low 80's...the scenery is unrivalled by any on earth, the sun shines every day, there are historical sites closeby...Virginia City,Nv...home of the comstock lode, Placerville, Ca....hangtown and depending on the time of year you visit you can fish for mackinaw(lake trout) and salmon. Beautiful hiking in desolation wilderness....on and on and on...love it. Also, if you like gambling, there are the casinos at Stateline or Reno is 45 minutes away.

Montana is outstanding, but I'm not sure why you would choose Browning. Glacier, Flathead Lake, Mission Mts. all the way down to Yellowstone is breathtaking. Bozeman would make a nice basecamp. The North Carolina Coast is also very nice. Hatteras is interesting, but I prefer the southernmost beaches like Carolina Beach outside Wilmington. Scotland's great, but I prefer Ireland. And why anyone would visit Memphis is beyond me (my apologies to Memphis-ites, proud Tenneseans or rabid Elvis fans). :D

Go to lake Titicaca, on the Peru-Bolivia.
You can fish, be on the water, and be in the mountains, all at the same time

I'm going to MB this weekend!!!! My wife and I try to go a couple times per year. Lots to do there. Lots of places to eat, drink, shop ,shows, Ripley's Aquarium, etc. A great place!!!!

I've been to New Orlaens a few times. I LOVE THAT CITY!!!!
It is unbelievable the things you can see there ;)

Hi. I understand New Zealand is about the best country for remote fly-fishing locations, if that's what you're into. Lots of fabulous scenery, too.

You haven't included France on your list, though it probably fits your requirements better than most European countries. Big on mountains, big on fishing, camping and most outdoor activities, and a much lower population density than any other European country.

If you come to England, you might look at the Severn valley, especially the stretch south of Bridgnorth. The river Usk, over the border in Wales, would be well worth a look, too.

Andy.
