I've been a lot of places, and of all the choices on your list I would pick these as the top 3:
Hawaii (Oahu for touristy stuff, Maui and Kauai for the natural beauty)
Alaska (jaw dropping scenery all over the place but time your visit wisely)
Ireland (great pubs, friendly people and just an overall cool place)

RMNP.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Rocky Mountain National Park. Awesome scenery, and there's a little nightlife in the town of Estes Park. Glacier National Park is gorgeous as well.
I need to get out to Banff someday, as well as Whistler, BC. They're all way out there, with the exception of RMNP, but well worth the trip if you're into solitude and natural spectacularness.

As far as the falls,he does have Buffalo (30 minutes away) listed. Also Rochester (90 minutes). Upstate Ny has some very good fishing. Lake Ontario,and the finger lakes region is quite pretty with its long clear lakes and rolling hills. There are some very fine winerys (sp?) all along these lakes too.
