vacation knife advice?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice. I'll be vacationing in North Carolina next week and am wondering what knives to take. Thinking a leatherman sidekick, SAK cadet and a spyderco endura. The leatherman will likely stay at the condo, the SAK will hit the beach (least threatening if I need to open something in public) and the endura when going out for any reason. Any thoughts? Are there any odd Carolina laws that would restrict any of these? I could swap a Kershaw skyline for the spyderco if blade length is any issue.

Youre pretty good to go with that set up, the Carolinas are decent for rules. Simply pay attention to local prohibitions/beach rules and as always remember, youre life is worth more always. Be safe, be concealed and be smart

Nice choices, but, for the beach, I'd want a SAK with tweezers. Great for beach first aid for slivers, stings, glass, etc.

Normally for small splinters, stings, glass and such, I prefer to have a small sharp blade on me and I open it up and remove the object. I want to make sure that I have the wound cleaned effectively, (especially since I am on vacation, no need in being bedridden due to a lackadaisical approach to wound care). A piece of glass/wood has likely been kicked around in the sand with Plenty of other peoples feet also just as dirty as mine.
A splinter causes a wound that is ripe for infection just due to a dirty piece of material being injected into the skin and pulling debris with it.

Being that he is going to be on vacation in a high salinity/humidity area, I would pick up a H1 dragonfly in Yellow. It is small, non threatening, bright (so it doesn't look tactical or "as scary"), and salt water safe.

These types of threads always make me feel less crazy.

When packing for a trip, I usually spend about 2 minutes jamming clothes into a pack and setting shoes & flip flops aside, and then 15 minutes standing before my knives, ruminating over what configuration/combination will best suit my time away and how effectively the folder will pop bottle tops as compared with the multitool I am bringing. You know, a perfectly reasonable planning time allotment scenario. :D

As to selection, my travel preference is to have one main single blade folder, one alox SAK (Farmer or Pioneer), and one tool with toothpick/tweezers/small scissors to keep back at the room. If only two are going along, I'll cut out the alox.

Good news is whatever you pick will work out. Have a great trip!

Thanks for the input everyone! Much appreciated. Mostly looking to see if I would breaking any laws with those. I have a few things in my first aid kit that will be in my backpack, including tweezers. I am sticking with stainless obviously, but wish that I owned something in H1.

Your VG-10 Endura should be fine, maybe just rinse it with sink water each night and let it air dry open overnight. Some guys on here go WAY over the top when it comes to saltwater protection, like telling me that I should flush down my 154CM Griptilian with brake cleaner and then gun oil it...overkill much? Brake cleaner is probably worse for the knife than salt water and definitely bad for the environment. VG-10 is actually a very rust resistant stainless, I use my Endura in and around chlorinated and brackish water all the time and have never had rust issues.

I was actually thinking that the Size of the endura might be of concern, and that If he was willing to spring for an H1, the dragonfly might suit the needs better of both not scaring the wary and families while giving him any assurances he may have wanted.

The Salt 1 is roughly Delica size, not as big as the Endura or Pacific but not comically small like the Dragonfly. I can tell you though, I have a SE Pacific Salt and it is quite an imposing blade in person, the full serrations make it look like you should be using it to trim hedges. It makes a great bread knife by the way...

Not sure where you're going in NC but I'm lucky enough to get to visit the Outer Banks a few times a year. When there I carry either a SAK or Spyderco Atlantic Salt. Never gotten a second look from anyone.
