Hi everyone

Just was hoping to get some opinions on ValiantCo. There's an antique I'm considering and figure if I'm going to buy the antique that would never get used I might as well get something that's more useable as well. Realistically I probably don't need anything as being in Canada I don't have the same vegetation a machete is good for, and I do have a good HI Kukri to try out as a chopper this summer. I'm a little worried about the durability of their items, can anyone comment on some the more durable items? A lot of items are really well priced so I am interested, and other items are more expensive but would make a great decoration.

Also big thanks to the posters that helped me around September. I ended up going with a Rucki and found an awesome HI Kukri deal of the day.

Thanks
AF

I have a few. The edges are very thin. I've bent them a few times but over time if you remove the bends and chips you wind up bringing the edge back to a thickness that works for you. They are REALLY good for cutting grass and light vegetation. Better than any machete I think due to the super fine edge.

The only downside is that the handles are horn and not full tang. If you chop anything hard with them or really even don't baby them regarding temp and humidity then you will get cracks. If you chop hard stuff you will get cracks along the back of the handle where the force of the blade hitting the wood forces the tang back and cracks the horn.

Also Valiant does not consider handle cracks a returnable flaw.

So I'll say they are good for what they are. Really made more for cutting non woody vegetation in the jungle. I like all of mine and they are really nice within the limitations and problems I mention.

I have one of their survival goloks, a Kopis, and one of the shorter Golok Kelapa(sp?) The Kelapa with the shorter blade is actually a better chopper because with the shorter blade it does not have the leverage to crack the back of the handle like the longer handled goloks.

Something you might want to consider if you want a tougher blade is the goloks sold by Reflections of Asia. They are not as highly finished as the Valiant but they are much sturdier and the horn handles I'm not sure what sort of horn it is, but much less prone to cracking than the Valiants.

I have 5 valiant co blades

no antiques tho

Their new gear is good , I have belted snot out of a couple of mine , no complaints , lotta good things to say about them tho . I dont go back cos their gear sucks , but cos it impressed hell outa me , as does their service .

antique gear tho .. its as good as the guy who made it I guess ... being antique id hazard that warranty expired back in history too ...

I use a knife thats from the early 1900s as my regular hunting knife usualy ..( not valiant made ) . its sad to see blades being consigned to shelfs and museums and never used , when you use an old knife its like living history in action :) my opinion
