I work on a ranch most days of the week and need a knife, that also works as an edc. Give me your opinions. Under $60, Under 4 inches, Frn would be nice, no frame lock. Any reply's welcome.

There are a ton of knives that fit your specifications and people are probably going to give you so many recommendations that nothing that anybody says is going to be relevant. I could recommend you 20 knives based off of what you specified that I have experience with, but then what good would that do?

not frn (g10) but the cold steel lawman fits your requirements.

the delica and endura come with frn and are also reasonably priced.

The Kershaw Lahar and RAM are ~$60. The Lahar is a quite stout VG-10 steel bladed folder w/ G-10 handles and ~3 1/2" blade length.

Also, look at a Buck Vantage Pro for ~$50-55. S30V steel and G-10 handles.

Spyderco Endura 4 is also a great hard-use folder with it's beefy tip in that saber-grind VG-10, FRN handles w/ nested steel liners and a strong back lock.

Consider also a Buck 110 with sheath for $30 at Walmart. That pretty much defines value and hard use for me.

I was going to say the same thing. I'd also recommend the Kershaw Junkyard Dog (I or II.) There's also a Manix II on sale around here for $60.

+1 on the Endura 4, but it's FRN. The G10 one is nice but it costs a good deal more and, I think, it's discontinued, but don't quote me on that. I've heard Spyderco's FRN is actually pretty nice, maybe check one out in a store. They also have FFG FRN Enduras now, I don't know how much they run for though.

I'd say go for a new Endura 4 with FRN, a (very) used Endura 4 G10, or a Griptillian (which is FRN, I know), but it's a very good knife.

isnt the jyd a frame or liner lock?

Small one is framelock, large one is liner.
I think the Lahar is one of the best buys out there right now for a stout hard use knife.

op doesn't want a frame lock, and i would guess not a liner lock either.

but they are nice.

+1 on the KA-BAR. There may be fancier knives, but that Dozier is a worker. Heckuvadeal.

Here's another vote for the Dozier - sweet bargain. Or if you want the strength and quickness of a fixed blade - you could do a whole heck of a lot worse than the Becker Necker. Either one gets you under your budget.

Alternatively, some sort of SAK (the Farmer, maybe?) might be the cat's meow for you.

Sypderco Byrd line is all WELL under $60.
Heck, I've seen the FRN Cara-Cara for under 20.
I just got a Crossbill and think it's pretty nifty, seems to be built strong too.
CaraCara and Crossbill are both lockbacks.

I also second someone's suggestion of the Izula.
