I'm the proud owner of THE hand made large Sebenza #2. I am just woundering about a value, for insurance purposes. The knife is in mint condition.

How are the handmade ones marked again? With an "H" and a number?

That's a good question, I'd be curious to know myself.

I would say about $50

If you want to sell it...

If a standard model sells second hand for about $300 used and $345 mint. I would as a collector expect to part with about $650-$750 for this type of knife. That is what it would be worth it to me. I may be wrong.

Bob - is the knife marked H 2, P 2, or just 2? Without seeing the knife and knowing a few details, it is hard to know exactly which one it is!

Anyone take a look at the pics yet?

Bob said he picked this up a couple of years back at a gun show- he found it just lying with a bunch of other knives on a dealer's table.

What I'd like to know is at what point the handle slabs were anodized. Which looks good I think, but it is only on the outside face of the slabs. All of the edges and other nooks and crannies retain the bead blasted finish.

This one certainly has some history- perhaps Anne or Chris could shed some light on this.

Just noticed the blade grind as well- looks different than the current grind and the Classic....

commenting on Bobs H2 Sebenza, Just a couple of notes. I held up a card of mine next to photo of Bobs birth card. The print is identical to mine. IE: the hand printing, but my card is for a small sebenza # P 10 and my date is October 20 1993. I also have a large sebenza that I am original owner of and it is # H 10, The confusing part to me is the date on the card. My H 10 is dated July 24 1991 almost 2 years before the date on Bobs Card, So while the hand printing looks authentic, the date is confusing, also no # is listed where the serial # would go. and all of my Reeve knives have a serial # written in them Maybe I should introduce myself as this is my first post. I am new to the forum , but not new to Chris Reeve Knives. My first Reeve knife was #47 South Africa Mark V purchased new in 1987. Incredible knife as most of you know. I enjoyed putting this one through the paces of hunting camping and all around knife fun. and then as time went on my search had always been for a strong folder. I own several custom and production folders , but never quite right . Then one day, in a store saw a blade magazine with story of Chris on cover and something about ZULU folder. I purchased magazine , read article, and called # at end of article. Anne answererd with G'Day, Chris Reeve Knives, and she still sounds as sweet today as she did then! (Spoke with her just yesterday) That was about first week in September 1990. I placed my order that day with Anne and with a couple phone calls and some correspondence over the next year or so while waiting, My Sebenza finally arrived. I still remeber the day as I picked up package and unwrapped the white tissue paper revealing the knife inside (brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!) WOW What a Knife!! I have carried this knife for almost10 years now flicking it countless thousands of times. Like while driving down the freeway and just to stay awake, open and shut, flick and click. Talk about long term test evaluation. welcome aboard all you "new" sebenza owners and Chris Reeve knife nuts. I have done just about everything a knife can be used for except defend or atack someone. ( and I know it would do this well also) I have dropped it a couple of times on hard surfaces and never a single problem. The most i have ever had to do besides the occasional sharpening ,i s to adjust the screws, mainly the pivot one that would come loose after a heated open and close session with the knife. I saw some threads on open and close the knife awhile back and let me tell you, probably the only person who has flicked his sebneza open more than me is Mr Reeve himself. I am going on and on here, but couldnt wait to say something, and have so much more to say! Suffice it to say as you guys always do , One reeve knife is not enough! I gifted the Mark V to my son, I own #H10 Sebenza, # P10 small Sebenza and gave my Dad #P11 small Sebenza ( nothing says I Love You like the gift of a Reeves knife!) I also own #10 of the project II knives. And have a 71/2 inch Kathathu on order along with the new mnandi (spelling,? sorry) So include me in your certified Reeves knife ownership club! Talk to you all later! thanks for listening. David Buhrer

Here I am - totally confused by H2!!!

We have absolutely no knowledge of the purple anodizing. It certainly wasn't done by us and I don't know who owned that knife.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this was one of those "who knows what happened because no one would tell" situations! But my foggy memory brings the following to mind: I can't recognize/remember whose hand writing it is on the card but I don't dispute that it came from our shop. I think what happened was that we bought that knife back on a trade. It was refurbished and set aside for Chris to take to a show and it got shipped out in error. Someone, somewhere along the way, scored big time!! We looked for the knife one day and it was missing - and no one could say what had happened to it! This would explain why the dates don't jive but I have no idea why there is no serial number on the card. (As an aside here, I have to say that we kissed a few frogs before we found the wonderful staff that we have now!)

As far as a value for the knife - I would put it at around $500+ - it is totally irreplaceable and I think there are a few collectors who would treasure something like this!

I hope this helps!!
Anne

Thanks Anne!

Wow, sorry to hear about the possibility of unfortunate circumstances surrounding this Sebbie's "travels", but it's still an interesting bit of history.

I'm sure Bob will be really interested to read this.
