Vantage avid gone???

Looks like they might be. I don't see them on Buck's website and some of the online vendors I checked showed some or all Vantage Avid models as out of stock. Haven't checked the Buck catalog for 2014 yet.

At the Blade Show, I handed one to a Boy Scout in uniform. Should have had a select in my pocket I guess...ha 300

Lol That sucks man.

Wow sucks they got rid if it. Looks like they got rid of the vantage force avid to.

Yep, they are gone. It really sucks too. that was my favorite of the line. I think the steel is a bit better than the s30V, it doesnt chip nearly as much. the handles are quite nice as well.

Pretty amazed they did that. Especially since they just brought out the Rosewood diamondwood version. Bit bummed since I really like that knife at that price point, it's my favorite of things Buck has put out in the last several years. Trying to like the Marksman but the Vantage keeps pushing it out of my pocket.

Alright, thanks to you guys I just had to go out and order one of the Rosewood versions. Really prefer the wood and think I "need" another spare around :-)

Seriously though, good to know while they are still around. The plastic or G10 aren't so much my thing.

I like this line also and have a few. I am surprised they stopped making them too as I thought it was a good seller for them. They always sold well at Walmart and Dicks Sporting goods by me....

I got called buck a lil while ago and ask if they where getting rid of vantage avid line and they said something like this

Yes, because 13c26 sandvic is a Swedish steel and we are trying to go with all American steel like S30V, 154CM, and 420HC.

I think they did something like this with ats34.

I guess I better get an avid soon then. Its a shame to discontinue such an awesome affordable knife but at least they still have the rest of the line, maybe theyll bring it back with a steel like 154cm or cts-bd1, that would be sweet. Even though it sucks they are discontinuing it I like that they are trying to go 100% USA, makes me happy to have a 301 in my pocket today.

Does anybody have any numbers on total numbers of models in this year's line up compared to others?

I really like the new web site and think it's much cleaner looking and much better organized. While it's always sad to see products go [1], it looks like Buck is moving towards a stronger and more disciplined brand management, which I think is good.

On the subject of steels and purchasing decisions, I wish they would get rid of the 420J2 on the imported knives and just use 420HC, especially on the slip joints. IMO, better to concede the low end slip joint market to Rough Rider, Taylor Brand Schrade (mouth vomit) and the like. Bring the slip joints to the US and compete with Case for the mid range market.

I must agree with you on this one. I'm excited to see what they can come up with in the near future.

The Vantage Avid is still being produced, but in a different configuration. The current Vantage Avid has Rosewood scales on top of a polymer housing, and a 420HC blade.

Brady,
Pretty sure that version is also gone now, or if it's not I missed finding it on their website today.

the rosewood version is new, but I think its on back order cause they ran out of rosewood I thought I read.

Hmm, I just received one yesterday from Amazon. But y'all are right, they aren't listed on the website.

I just ordered a few of the rosewood ones after reading all of this...lol...I had only seen them with the BOND name on them before which I did not like, but I like the wood look on these, so I have a few on the way from Amazon....

I'm so glad I got the avids when I did! I love the dark "wood", great knives! I wish they had made a medium- can't get my pinkie finger around the small and the large is just (imo) a tiny bit large for public (non knife person) use
