I have a Bader 3 grinder and would like to make it variable speed. It has a 1 3/4 motor single phase baldor motor and was wondering if anyone had any ideas, I just got the grinder paid for and was wondering if I could get it variable speed without paying alot of money. I would be awesome if I could just buy that kit for beaumont metal works but it way to expensive for me, Thanks for any help, Charlie

Charlie, I've been researching the same thing this week.
This best I have found is the kbac-27d VFD for $340.00 and a Grizzly 2hp 3 phase motor for $115.00 + plus shipping. Wish I had bought the VFD setup from Beaumont in the first place. :(

Or you could get the aforementioned Grizzly 2hp 3phase motor for $115.00, and a Teco FM50 VFD from factorymation.com for $145.00. This has been used by a fair amount of people around here, will act as a phase convertor for your 220v 1 phase shop power to the 3 phase motor, is a great value, and you can find past threads and ask questions about setting it up here. Check out this link to that VFD:
