The only person I will give one of my knives at any moment is my wife.
She knows how to use them and
my limits of abuse.
She has their own "tools and bladed instruments" for all "non-knife related tasks"
Other than that - A simple Victorinox slipjoint will suffice for all "do you have a knife?" questions...
If they cut themselves or damage it, I really don't care
Also I just remembered the time I was in the middle of using my Spyderco swayback at work and someone saw I had a knife handy and said “hey can I get that when you’re done?” Gave him the knife and I guess he’s never seen a wharncliffe style blade because he tried to cut with the curved side (even though he just saw me mid cut) and got a nice slice on his finger from putting pressure on the side with the edge. I felt bad, he felt embarrassed. Hasn’t asked me for anything since
