Here's some various ramblings of mine about soome of the new knives that debuted at SHOT:
* One of the many new knives that made their debut at this year's SHOT show was the Air Frame - designed by Bill Harsey and made in the USA by Gerber. Measuring about 9" overall, the Air Frame features a skeletonized cast titanium handle, ti liner, and 154CM blade. I was very impressed by this one - opens and closes smoothly, has potential to be a great daily carry piece.
* Benchmade to switch to 154CM, starting with the 730 Elishewitz. The existing models will be phased in later.
* SOG showed two new folders based on the Vision tanto folder that has their new lock, the Arc Lock. Looks and operates very similar to an Axis Lock.
* Kershaw to reproduce Ken Onion's Boa with aluminum scales. Two finishes - all black (blade and handle) or satin finished and splash type finish - take a walk on the wild side
These will feature 440V blades, Speed Safe, and a Carson flipper-like index trigger to help deploy the blade faster and serve as a finger guard (list $185). Also, their production Avalanche, Ken's design as well. The working man's version of Kershaw's 25th Anniversary knife - 440V with "peel ply" G-10 scales (list $130).
* Ernie Emerson beamed as he extracted a prototype CQC7 from his pocket, Commander style
Yup, the production 7's will sport the Wave.
* Schrade jumping headfirst into the collaboration trend with a D'Holder stag handle drop point hunter and a Lake/Walker design folder. Both feature BG-42 steel and are limited to 1,000 serialized pieces.
* Klotzli debuted a carbon fiber Walker design with a drop point blade. Knife is very similar to the existing KLM-2 model.
* Boker showed off their new version of the 2055 Brend BTF-1 folder with all G-10 scales and a black blade.
* A visit to Blade-Tech's booth revealed the itsy-bitsy Mouskinna (sp?) and the Pro-Hunter fixed blade in Talonite by our own Rob Simonich.
* CRKT's booth was a beehive of activity with makers like Jim Hammond, Pat and Wes Crawford, Greg Lightfoot, Ed Halligan, Russ Kommer, and Kit Carson showing off their new designs. I am impressed with the Point Guard and Kasper models. The company did them up to a "T" - they look identical to their custom counterparts.
Whew! That's about it for now. Hope this whets your appetites...
