Vasque boots....

I have mainly worn Danners for years, with the exception of a couple pairs of boots that I got from Cabelas . The last pair of hikers I got from Cabelas, were the most comfortable out of the box boots I've ever owned. They lasted very well too. But like most good things, they discontinued them

My current pair of hikers are Danner Radical 452's. I live in them...
However the soles have not lasted as long as my other Danners, and this version can't be resoled.

I found a pair of Vasque hikers that I really like. I think they are the Wasatch GTX's.
They look like a nicely made boot, and have a fairly aggressive tread pattern , but I don't want to drop 165.00 on them before I get some input.

If you have had any Vasque boots , I would appreciate your input. Good or bad.

I have a pair of the Zephyr GTX and love them. Great traction and comfy. Can't commit on wear as I have not used them all that much as of yet. Mine are not a wide so they are a little on the snug side if you like a wide shoe. Standard was all my local Red Wing had in stock for my size, as this was a discontinue item.

My Vasque hikers are 10 years old and i'd buy them again in a heartbeat. Best money I ever spent on boots. The 10 year old hikers are still my daily wear and go-to hiking boot. Not one thing is coming apart on them anywhere. Just the tread is going but still usable.

I'd say 10 years is really good for daily wear boots.
I wear my Danners for everything including work. IIRC I only bought these about 8 months ago, and the soles are so worn, they are slippery on wet surfaces.
I was actually disappointed with how quickly these wore out.

I have some Danner Romeos I bought about 6 months ago, and the soles worn down really quickly on those too.

My other Danners were bought 5 -6 years ago, and they are wearing great.
I'm starting to think that they changed the material they make their soles out of.

If Cabela's sells them, go to their web site and you'll be able to read customer reviews.

I got a pair of Vasque sundowners in December of 1999. Wore them most every day during the fall, winter and spring and some during the summer. I bought a new pair last spring so I can send the old ones out to be resoled. Great boots.

I tried Vasque and they just didn't fit right. However, I have a pair of Zamberlans and they rule! About $225 but I probably will get 5 years out of them minimum in the San Juan mountains up here.

I have a pair of Asolo's too and they are also holding up after 10 years.

I'm fairly hard on my boots, but I would be happy to get 2 years out of a pair.
5-10 years would be even better :D

I have worn a pair of Chinese Vasque Sundowners for the past 6 years and have loved them. At first I was disappointed that they were the Chinese version, but they have held up amazingly well, easily more durable than any pair of Merrel's I've owned by 3 fold and counting! I have hiked up to 8 days carrying a 40 pound pack, and countless weekend hikes, hunting trips, camping, shoveling the driveway, trips to the mall, etc. They are on my feet about 50% of the time I'm wearing shoes.

I'm now many miles into my current pair of Sundowners as after many more miles I decided to retire my first pair to being the beat around/yardwork boots. Love these things.

I like my Asolos better than my Vasque Sundowner GTXs. The Vasques are creaky (loudly!) and are quite a bit bigger than their labeled size says they are.

It's the creakiness that gets me. They are truly too loud to use as a hunting boot. You couldn't sneak up on a deaf elephant standing in a field of cotton balls with these things!

vasque are nice, but i agree with the zamberlan recommendation

got my last pair on sale at REI 6 years ago and have held up well. also have a 20+ year old pair that now have been relegated to being yard work shoes but they refuse to fall apart

One pair of my Danner hunting boots was the same way when I got them.
My buddy and I laughingly called them my Stalkin boots :D
After oiling them good, and wearing them for awhile, they quit doing it.
