As a land surveyor, I put boots through the ringer. I have a pair of Vasque Sundowners that are still going strong after having them for 8+ years now. I also had a pair of Vasque breeze which were by far the most comfortable pair of boots (think tennis shoes), but they are made out of a soft leather/fabric combination and the daily abuse given out by the briars, privet bush, and snags in the woods just chewed them up. I thought about getting another pair just for hiking, which they are intended for, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to someone looking for a good, comfortable boot. I have retired my Sundowners now to yard work, and am wearing Asolos but in my opinion, you can't go wrong with the Vasque.
My boot experiences:
Rocky= Comfortable but only last 3-6 months.
Danner= I know I will probably be called a communist or something along the line for going against the grain, but I've had 2 pair of Danners and been burned by them both times. They're just not for me. Leaked within a month, and probably the most uncomfortable of all boots that I have owned.
Cabela Outfitter Series= Great boot, lasted the longest out of any work/hunting boot. 2+ years
Wolverine= Comfortable, but not made for surveying.
Vasque= Comfortable, and well made boots.
Asolo= Haven't had either pair long, but I feel like they'll provide many years of service.
*** I may look at the Zamberlan line of boots for my next pair, as I have heard nothing but good things about them. The biggest thing with any boot, is to make sure that they fit your feet. What is comfortable for one person may be pure torture for the next. ***
