Vaughan and Bushnell / Dasco Maybe Closing Soon -

I'm guessing that the people who like to modify them are the ones who dislike the nail notch ?
I don't use it, but don't hate that it's there.

Generally, yeah. I find it handy for grasping wire, like old barbed wire or electric fence wire, for pulling it out of the way. There's tons of old farm properties in my neck of the woods so old snarls of fence wired are all over the place, and using the nail notch doesn't bite into your hands. Also, you can use duplex nails in your pack for quick camp structures that are easily pulled afterward.

If losing the notch is the price of them staying in US production then I guess it's better than the alternative.
I too dislike most change.

Just thought I'd post this incase anybody hadn't seen it. They make a few odd patterns of axes/hatchets and hammers, plus some other things, so it maybe time to stock up.

Because there are people on this forum that have a problem with wearing their tools out? I would like to know how, since real craftsmen who use theirs for years makinga living are not wearing them out.

It's easier to buy a new hammer when a milled face gets worn than fool around with re-cutting them.
I've purchased many a Vaughn through the years.

Real craftsmen have bills to pay and won't let damaging a $20 tool stand in the way of completing the work on schedule. Tools are cheap. Labor is expensive.

I have an old Stanley 1" wood chisel that I carried in my nail bags for decades. I used and abused the crap out it, knowing that some work was going to destroy the edge. But like a real craftsman I re-sharpened it and put it back to use. Eventually it was worn short enough that it become my dedicated 'rough service' wood chisel. What used to have a 3-1/2" blade now has a 1-1/2" blade. But I still pulled it out and used it last week.
