Some time ago there was a thread derailment here in the Busse forum that turned a thread about something i can't remember into a thread about Vegemite and Austrailian accent, Well now i got Vegemite and i love it, it smells like something dead in a pint of devils brew but tastes like delicioussalty beer on your toast.. Today i tried toast with a thin spread of Vegemite and bacon on top and it was great!!!. I have never been excited about a spread before but this stuff is amazing.

THANK YOU AUSTRALIA:thumbup::thumbup::D

You are of course slightly sick and just a little demented, for the uninitated I suggest it is like licking freshly laid and still warm ROAD TAR..... ;) ;)

You know I had a friend of mine from down there send me some a while back and to be honest I was afraid to try it .

You should taste some of the fermented fish stuff we eat here in Norway, that stuff is truly terrifying

Vegemite is an Aussie dietary staple! Short black, Vegemite & toast, and a bacon & egg roll and your ready to take on the day

Marmite (the original, and still the best!) is available in the US. Over-priced, but it is available (at least where I live).

Aaaarrrgghhh!!!

I was just thinking of this stuff yesterday! Still need to try it.....And all the other "mites" offered down there.

On a side note. Nutella and Bacon is a beautiful thing.

Yeah you defenitely need to try this stuff, start with a super thin spread on toast with lots of butter and work your way from there.

Nutella and bacon ???:eek:are you serious??

Vegemite is the best. I love it on toast with heaps of butter, washed down with a good coffee first thing in the morning. Delicious!! :)

Just had my ACL surgery Wednesday....so I was eating as much as I could Tuesday before the "cutoff" fast time. While whipping up some BLTs ( on a side note, I grabbed a head of "lettuce" at the grocery store and while I was washing it, Lady Gravelface asked what I was doing washing cabbage. Yes, in my rush to get home....I grabbed cabbage in place of lettuce) so I brave the unknown and made a BCT.....with no mayo cause I assumed I had mayo at the house.....

Let me say if you ever have the opportunity to have a BCT, politely decline and and poke the one offering in the eye. So with dinner in ruin and a plate of freshly cooked bacon, I had to do something with it and in a moment of clarity and after catching a glimpse of the Nuttella out the corner of my eye......the 2 flavors danced through my mind and so I began the process of coating the bacon in nutella and enjoyed it even more than a REAL BLT could have possibly done!!!!

Jason, you didn't start taking any drugs before the surgery did you???

I had a Aussie friend that swore by Vegemite. The name alone is enough to throw me off, but I guess I'd try it.

Nutella, ooooohhhhh, I can't put Nutella on anything because my mouth eats it before I get the chance to spread it on the toast!

It's a 3 hour round trip to the store and back, but I am out of bacon AND Nutella...

Just like to re-emphasise, thick butter, and thin smear of Vegemite, until you're used to it. I'm a bit of a heathen, I actually prefer Promite (a bit sweeter), but Vegemite is still good.
Also, Vegemite and cheese sandwiches used to be a staple school lunch. As was a Vegemite sandwich stuffed with chicken chips (Crisps to our English brothers). Come to think of it, how did we survive school?

Vegemite was developed by a chemist who had to hot foot it out of Scotland after he blew up the munitions factory he worked at. Clearly he was equally good at making food...

If it smells anything like Marmite, which Vegemite was made to replace, I won't be putting it near my bacon, thank you very much.

Bacon and Nutella though... now that has potential. We have a small stock of Nutella. My wife has it on her croissants at weekends as a breakfast treat. That's next Saturday morning sorted then...
