I know either K&G or TKS used to offer heat treating for stainless blades.
Neither web site show a H/T service now. Am I nuts? Wait- don't answer that!
Is there a vendor who offers reasonably priced H/T service for single blades?

Tru Grit does a great job. Jeff Mutz runs their shop and has been a knife maker for 17 years and is a folder guy like you. Give him a call.

Don't know if distance is an issue but throughout my entire time knifemaking I've used Peters' for everything from 1 to 50 knives at a time and they've always been absolutely incredible to work with and fair with pricing and turnaround (so long as it's not close to Blade or Christmas hehehe). Cryotreatment, straightening, and I think quite a few other services as well. I've even purposefully sent warped blades so they come back straight hahaha. Can't recommend them enough, however, I have yet to try anyone else so this might just be bias as all hell lol. Preeeeeetty sure you can even coerce them to hook you up with Delta protocols if you like 3V :)

Doesn't JT on this site still do heat treating? He's had some very good words written on his HT.

I know myself and some others will occasionally HT stainless for other local makers. I'm not offering to do it as shipping things around is a pain, but it might be worth seeing if you have anyone local you could interest.

Thanks for all the replies.
I don't normally do stainless, but occasionally a job requires it and knowing that there is a vendor to H/T is a good thing!

Yes I do, but I had taken a break till the shop is finished. We are getting really close to being done and I finished wiring up to the meter base today so we are getting there. We keep liquid nitrogen on had and wrap all stainless in stainless foil.

Tru grit did a wonderful job in the 2 blades I recently sent them. Hit the desired RC on the money and came back quite flat.

Hey LCKT,
What are Delta protocols?
Tim

Sorry for the late response! Look in to information from our very own Nathan Carothers it involves tweaks to the industry standard heat treat of CPM-3V using lower tempering protocols allowing a much tougher blade and greater edge retention at much higher hardness. It also introduces a lot of free chromium in to the blade and gives it tremendous stainless properties. They basically took a reaaaaally reeeeaaaaallly good tool steel that can go through hell and back and made it even a better performer!
